Does Alaska Airlines research who you are?

I saw the Reddit page for Alaska Airlines. Knuckleheads there are trying to sell MVP Gold Guest Upgrades. Other people warn that violation results in the seller's forfeiture of accumulated miles and whatnot.

Somehow, Alaska Airlines ties their Reddit account to a Mileage Plan member.

Does Alaska figure out who you are on FlyerTalk?

Dear AS, Just to be clear, I do not support people violating rules or even violating the spirit and intent of benefits.

Of course they do, just like any other company.

Disneyland has been slowly and quietly revoking annual passes of people who use their discount to buy product in bulk and resell to others. I suspect they have a team dedicated to researching those who advertise their willingness to violate the T&C.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Alaska does something similar, albeit on a smaller scale.

Many of us here give enough information for AS to figure out who we are if they care. I'm guessing that they don't care.

It doesn't take very much information. If you mention 2-3 flights that you were on that's probably enough to narrow it down to one person. Throw in details about upgrades, compensation you have received, etc and it's even easier.

They could just "buy" the upgrade on offer. Then they know.

Don’t laugh. I was PM’d just the other day from someone who offered to trade me for one. I had posted earlier wondering about the thread for giving them away. I politely declined, truthfully saying that I valued my AS account far too much to jeopardize it by doing anything even remotely close to being against the T&C’s.

Of course AS does. A good chance that some of the "buyers" on Reddit, eBay, Craigs List and the like are AS (or other carrier) security folks.

I booked two tickets yesterday for travel 12/31. I bought the eligible fare and got my immediate upgrades. If someone, non status, had a couple of GGUs about to expire they could have been flying in F on an H fare.

James.
