I would also be interested to get an answer to this. My expectation is that no one will know until AS publishes it on their website however. Hope they allow Japan-EU as well as Japan-US

There are a lot of people waiting for this, get in line

It's being discussed here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alask...s-partner.html

It is going to be a disaster. Ever since the AA crowd locked up CX, there are no longer decent USA-Asia J awards to be had. The moment JL opens up to AS, everyone and their mommy will dive onto it with their churned AS mileage balances and wipe out alll award inventory in 24 hours.

Hmm. Apocalyptic but accurate, in my opinion.

Hi -

I agree that US-Asia F awards on CX have gotten a little harder to find, but their J awards can still be had -- you just have to basically go stand-by over any given week - as well as avoid the major asian and US holiday periods.

Uh, AA has had access to JL for years. And there are a LOT more AA miles sloshing around than AS ones (recall: you could actually get lifetime Platinum on AA via cc spend for a long time). So maybe calm down a bit?

Not sure that is true, considering that bloggers continue to harp on the "ease of churning BofA Alaska Airlines Visa".

AA is a much bigger airline. AA has TWO credit card companies (Barclay's and Citibank). AA is even more aggressive about selling miles. Bloggers plug Citi links more aggressively than BofA.

But whatever floats your boat. The sky is falling.

All those AA miles chase the same CX and JL awards AS does

So he is salivating at the thought of even less awards available to Mileageplan members?

No, I'm pointing out that it's unlikely that adding a smaller partner is going to make things much worse if the larger partners don't suck out all the award availability.

This will also reduce demand on AS DL/CX/KE/AA awards to Japan, to boot. (I picked some random dates in Feburary using the AS calendar. Loads of awards. Yes, it's low season, but come on, do you expect a ton of availability to award destinations when people are willing to pay for tickets there?)

FWIW, JL J availability out of YVR/SAN is pretty good, the catch being that the J product is pretty bad (recliners).
