What's the big deal about being on an inaugural from one city to another? Isn't the same as any other flight or do they do something special?

you get a certificate, and generally cake at the departure gate
(but, more important, you get FT bragging rights )

for some reason i thought it was PDX-OKC they were flying.

shows how often i think about going to OKC i guess

well in any case i'm still surprised about ICT over the others, as well as TUL for that matter.

Would they have the cake and certificate in IND? The flight originates from SEA and I am IND based.

Actually tempted to take this as I have been dying for this nonstop for a while. Price isn't bad actually but it is too far out for me to book yet.

I also took the IAD-SEA (re)inaugural last year, which was obviously the return of the SEA-IAD flight, and have the certificate for that hiding somewhere (possibly at home in SEA) ... iirc there were refreshments (cake, cookies, etc) available at the gate at IAD

Has there ever been an inaugural on a weekend? It's tough when you work all week to take a weekday flight.

usually they do a little something in both directions for the 'inaugural' flight originating in that city. at least based on reports here. i've never done an inaugural before despite holding tickets on a couple in the past. maybe on SMF-SAN i'll finally get to do one.

I imagine that IND will put on quite a show.

RDU did too as did PHL. BNA had singing pilots. And ANC-KOA... that was just tropical

Guess I've been on a handful myself

I'll look for you guys in IND ... 12.5k miles for the AA positioning flight from DCA, return flight (AS767) was $204 with U space available

inquiring minds want to know ... why did AS re-number the SEA-BWI turn? it used to be 767/768

AS opens IND, ICT

From airlineroute:
Alaska Airlines yesterday (03AUG16) announced additional new routes launch in spring 2017, currently available for reservation. From Seattle, the airline plans to operate 1 daily flight each to Wichita and Indianapolis. Planned schedule as follow.
Seattle 每 Wichita eff 13APR171 daily with Skywest Embraer E175
AS3424 SEA1155 每 1713ICT E75 D
AS3425 ICT1810 每 1955SEA E75 D
Seattle 每 Indianapolis eff 11MAY171 daily 737-800

AS768 SEA0955 每 1710IND 738 D
AS767 IND1810 每 1959SEA 738 D

IND is a no-brainer, but ICT? Wasn't expecting that one, at least for a few years.

I'll bet there is some corporate business in or near Wichita that promised AS a certain volume. Otherwise, there must be other cities with higher priority.
