SDC to what fare class?

I'm on an award ticket. If I SDC to an earlier flight, will I rebooked in W or another fare class? Will the ticket reissue make me eligible for an upgrade? If cases of non-award tickets, if you SDC to a flight with U space available does it show First on the SDC page or does it confirm you in Y and then upgrade you?

Can you SDC international tickets?

it will probably change to what the lowest award is whether its W or Q if awards are even same day changable. My fiance did a same day change at the gate on refundable award for an earlier flight from SEA-ANC before. She did have to go to 3 different GAs before having it changed. This was when whoever you booked the award for and used your miles it also still showed elite status. They were even going to upgrade her on the award but because when they asked if she was the elite member she unknowingly said no not realizing why she was being asked. And they said oh sorry you should say yes next time as we were going to upgrade you

I dont think awards are upgradable?
If you change a fare with U available it will put you into Y and assuming every body has has been upgraded as soon as you confirm the change and if you are elible for an upgrade it should upgrade you when you submit the change. Same as when you buy an H fare with U open. It shows you in coach until you hit purchase

Unless things have changed I do know that if you are already in U and standby for an earlier flight it at least used to, stand you by for the F cabin, and you had to go to the gate and let the GA know you are ok with coach. The web wont confirm you into a coach seat. Other than that Im not sure. I havent used any domestic awards in quite a long time and a lot of rules have changed since I have. Barely have enough business travel and enough time for leisure travel to make status level. If I book AS metal awards now and then Id never hit status. I just use them for money and miles every now and then even though its not really the best return for your miles I dont really care. And saving the rest for F class to GUM, CDG, SYD, or Africa

I know I can SDC an award as I have done it before. First on my flight is wide open tomorrow. I know I can ask at the airport and shouldn't be upgraded, but may be upgraded by a nice agent. There is a flight 1.5 hours earlier with U space as well. I was hoping to SDC to earlier flight to get out of W class and then get upgraded.

When I checked in online there was an upgrade available button at the bottom. I'm guessing the button where AS tries to sell upgrade, when I clicked the price was 0 and it upgraded the award ticket.

Not sure if it matters, but DL elite on AS metal booked on award issued by BA.

Unless AS implemented something new, this is broken. I just did this for an ANC-SIT award and AS asked me for $50. What was your routing?

You know, posting about places where things are "broken in our favor" (since upgrades on awards shouldn't happen) usually means they are soon no longer broken in our favor, especially since AS employees participate on this board. Just a word to the wise, just like "don't call the airline when there's a fare mistake".

As far as I know, SDC needs any Y seat (does not need class of service match). Also, lately, because of how AS changed waitlist processing, SDC from U usually means you're sitting in Y (you don't go straight into F any more, but get stapled to the bottom of the waitlist, or sometimes don't even end up on the waitlist at all).

Yes, I was disappointed last week to find that my upgraded ticket would not transfer to any available F seat anymore, but only those with U availability (I assume it was U) or coach. It was nice while it lasted.
