Question using AS miles on AA

Apologize if this has been asked before, I searched found nothing and tried calling AS but they have an estimated wait of 34 minutes.

If using AS miles on AA, are we allowed an en route stopover? Looking to fly LAX-NAS and hoping to stopover in MIA.

If a stopover is possible, how would I book? Does it have to be over the phone? I tried using their partner airline search function online and NAS wouldn't even pull up - it reads it as Nashville.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the answer to the stopover question. However, for international awards not on AS's route system, you must call in.
