maybe it will even translate into I space.. or cut flights and no space ever like CX after covid

I think it's going to be a combination of the two--but at least for the SEA AS hub, I can't see QR running a 777 everyday between SEA and DOH without bleeding cash.

There might be some good cash rates too. I flew round trip SFO-DOH-ATH for $1800 in business (R Class) booked in 2021 for early 2022 when the US still required a Covid test to fly. They don't even sell US to Europe cash anymore even though they have award redemptions available for those routings.

Does booking a QR award ticket in Y come with free seat selection immediately after booking like AA and CX? Does QR allow free selection of extra legroom seats for oneworld elites?

As AS Platinums, my wife and I were able to get free seat selection on the QR flights we ended up cancelling for obvious reasons...even the extra legroom seats on the upper deck of the A380 were also free.

Anyone have data points on how Alaska handled QR award flight cancellations, in terms of re-booking options? I have one out of SFO at the end of next month and I see they have zeroed out inventory already on the SFO route, so I'm anticipating a cancellation eventually.

There are a few threads already discussing it. Once QR cancels you can work with them to rebook or you can work with AS to get your miles back. AS won't do anything once QR cancels and can't do anything before they cancel.

Can you share the threads discussing QR awards booked on AS?

QR's rebooking guidelines only apply to 157 tickets and their FAQs specifically state that you'll need to work with your booking agency if not booked with QR. More recently, I've heard that they became more strict this week on rebooking where they will no longer rebook on partners.

AS protection on QR/Middle East Award ticked?
Start there and it links to another thread and in that thread I link back to the thread on the QR forum.

If that change is true then if you want to fly find something else as you're probably not going to get much support from QR now.

Thanks, I did see those threads - doesn't look like much AS will do.

QR's new rebooking guidelines seems to only allow feeder flights to QR - pretty much need to fly through DOH (but anyways only applies to QR-issued tickets).

Award space is easily available in business in September, the only period I checked.

DOH-LAX - 215K points
LUS-DOH-LAX - 255K points

I booked. If flights aren't back to normal, I'll deal with that late summer.

Looks like I might not need to worry. They're gradually restoring flights, including SFO/LAX are bookable again after mid April. Got a schedule change notification on flight timings and aircraft type on my 2nd leg, but not a cancellation, so that's a good sign.

I spoke too soon. Looks like QR removed them again and they are still shuffling stuff around. My entire reservation became "unconfirmed" according to AS, but not cancelled, whatever that means. Probably have to sit on this until QR announces flights after Apr 15.

QR's website:

Your flight has been cancelled
Please contact the partner airline that issued your ticket for more information about the options available to you.

I love that I booked a ticket through QR and they refer to a partner airline
