Hello. I'm looking for opinions on AirTran's service out of Atlanta. I fly mainly to Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, and Raleigh, so their schedules are fine. Basically, Delta has pissed me off with their lack of customer service and incredible delays and over-booking, so I'm looking for alternatives. I really like the idea of 3 business-class round-trips getting me a free ticket. Opinions greatly appreciated!
my office splits evenly on Airtran--the delta partisans (we fly ATL-TPA) like the more frequency, but the Airtran partisans prefer the less cattlecar atmosphere (ever gotten off or on a full L1011 at TPA---not fun!!!). Bus class seats on Airtran are very comfortable--firm and unworn. If you have the slightest reason to avoid Delta you'll be perfectly fine with Airtran.
This is exactly what I was hoping for. I agree about the crappy LD1011s they use to cattlecar people to/from Florida cities. What pieces of crap! Even in first class! Have the AirTran folks run into many over-booking problems? This is my main beef w/ Delta and I don't want to run into it again if I can help it. Thank you for your response.

AirTran is trying to reverse the days of when it was ValuJet. Employees seem to be decent, passengers remind one of Greyhound $49 national fare sales. Definitely a leisure airline. Every flight I've been on (4) has been delayed for one reason or another. Remember that once you buy a ticket on AirValuTranJet, you're stuck with it... no other carrier accepts their tickets.
Those of you who know of me know me as a loyal UA flyer. For a while, though, I succumbed to the insistance of my travel agent, and flew AirTran. (IAD to Midway).
My Monday flight was always a minimum of 30-45 minutes late, and my Thursday afternoon flight home ... well, let's just put it this way. The last 3 weeks with Airtran, I left the office at 2:30 for a 2:30 flight, without calling first, and never missed my flight.
