AirTran ranked No. 2 in airline quality

AirTran Airways, the second-busiest airline at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport, was ranked No. 2 in airline quality, according to the newly released Airline Quality Rating.

The annual survey, conducted by Wichita State University and Purdue University, ranks airlines based on performance measures from published data sources. The criteria include baggage handling, customer complaints, denied boardings and on-time arrivals.

Hawaiian Airlines was the top-ranked carrier, followed by AirTran, JetBlue, Northwest and Southwest, in the top five. Oak Creek-based Midwest Airlines was not included among the 18 airlines in the rankings.

Congrats to AirTran. I have had overwhelmingly positive experiences with them thus far.

They seem to care about the overall customer experience (that is, with the exception of 30" coach seat pitch on the 717s)

Ouch! I remember the 1 time I flew coach on a 717 - person behind me's knees kept hitting the back of my seat. Otherwise, I'd LOVE to have the opportunity to fly FL from my home airport, but can't. Good for Airtran!
