How do you obtain your Priority Pass membership? Is it sponsored by a credit card issuer (which one), or do you pay for it?

Mine is a paid 'full access' (Prestige) plan direct from Priority Pass.. bought it last year at a deep discount. Had access to restaurants until recently. Won't be renewing!

I didn't realize that rule had been in place so long. I just found out the hard way yesterday at PDX when the Capers Market there explained it to me. I have one through Amex and one through CSR and typically only use the CSR so never noticed until this trip when I grabbed the Amex Priority Pass.
The thing that surprises me is that PP hasn't insisted on a different membership card for Amex with a different name in place of the Select branding (like "Priority Pass Lounges") to make it easier for their restaurant partners and cardholders to reduce confusion. |
Here we are a year later …The lounge at ORD terminal 5 was useless a couple of weeks ago. Open but only to those holding a 1st class ticket. Now the lounges at BCN are closed, except for the one which is restricted to those traveling within the Schengen visa area. Will the lounges at PHL and DFW be open when I arrive? Not optimistic. Only good experience I’ve had with this was SJC. The lounge at GDL is very minimal. If you’re leaving from there get something to eat somewhere else.

I'm a little confused by the priority pass offered by Amex Platinum. In the priority pass there are 3 tiers going from standard to Prestige, which one is the one from Amex? Is it the standard where you have to pay for access?

Use the Amex app and look through the lounge finder there to confirm whether you have access to a lounge. Plus, that shows all lounges available to you, not just Priority Pass ones. there are others you have access to beyond Priority Pass and Centurion. |
At the Lounge in terminal C, Boston, I was told Priority Pass goes on a waitlist. I’ve been waiting an hour-and-a-half to get in, and they told me there are still 4 people ahead of me. I’ve been happy with the restaurant credits I’ve gotten in the past, but this is not very relaxing.

I didn't know if this was the best place for this question but figured I'd ask here anyway (also for what it's worth, I find PP equally 'useless' in most places).
The question: Is there a difference between the Amex Platinum Priority Pass and the American Express Bonvoy Brilliant Priority Pass? I have both Credit Cards and I know the Amex gives you a bunch of other lounge benefits, but the question is specifically about the Priority Pass membership... |

No. The Amex issued PP are the same.

I love the PP membership that comes with the Vennture X card. We enjoyed a very good breakfast at the Lark Creek Grill in SFO last Saturday. Agree, though, that the basic PP w/o restaurant privileges in pretty weak.

Data Point - The Club at LAS 7PM Weds. Airport (and Vegas in general) is pretty empty but lounge is at capacity. I was told they were on a waitlist for PP members due to needing to honor all the airline-specific guests (guessing FC flyers?). Singe I was a single they let me in but made it sound like barely.
So, to the point of the thread, yeah, the PP is getting less useful by the day. They seem to be at the bottom of everyone's list (or excluded altogether). There was a day that I valued the PP as part of my Chase card but am not sure that's still the case. I get value from the card in other ways and will likely keep it but the PP is just too inconsistently accepted to be counted on. |
