Is Lufthansa really better than Air Berlin

If given the choice would it be better to fly with Lufthansa? I have never had any problem with my checked bags on LH and their meals are really good in Coach along with the At seat Movies.

It seems like Air Berlin could fold if they continue to provide subpar service. At least on Lufthansa you have all of your food and booze included.

If the price difference between Lufthansa and Air Berlin were $300 I would take Lufthansa over Air Berlin.

What's your take?

I'm actually fine with AB service in Y. Food and service is better than AA Y offerings.

In my experience, AB coach is really sucked in terms of service attitude and foods. They do charge for selecting seats in advance. Berlin airport is small, most of the restrooms have stinky smell. From my experience, I would avoid AB as much as possible.

I prefer UA and AA to LH in Y. AB is in fourth place, unless they have award space, in which case they move to first place.

For me it depends on the routing and the price.

Flying eco intra-european IMO there is no difference between AB and LH. Where the one is a bit better than the other, it is the other way round in another aspect.

Long haul eco I would tend to LH on most routes, mainly influenced by status benefits that I have at LH.

Long haul business: depends on the cabin they offer. New J on AB is better than old J on LH.

Thanks for your replies. I heard some varying stories about AB so I fly on Lufthansa and have not had any major flaw in Y.

For intra-European flights, I find LH better than AB. It seems like LH has more legroom in Y even for those short flights. The thing going for AB is the chocolate they give out at the end of the flight :-)

I'll take more leg room than the end of flight chocolate any day

AB shorthaul has a little less legroom (same as 4U on the seats in the back) but the seats are much more comfortable than on LH.

On Longhaul you can end up ob a 747 without Inseat IFE if you fly LH. Service is a hit and miss on both.

On AB you can order a better meal for little money. With LH you have to take the rubbish they offer.

Every LH longhaul plane has IFE in Y, including the 744.

Intra-Europe no difference other than LH is Star Alliance and AB is Oneworld

For FT'ers AB beats LH hands down with no-YQ redemptions.

AFAIK this is not the case. IIRC not all 744s have been retrofitted with added entertainment in eco and IMO at least two old 744s won't get entertainment in eco at all.

A usually good informed colleague told me today that since Dec. 1st none of the old, non-retrofitted 744 is in service anymore but might stay parked for some time and be used if needed for unusual circumstances.

So I stand corrected: All LH 744 in service should now offer PTV in eco.
