Air New Zealand service between New York/Newark and Auckland

Schedule announced on UA website

https://hub.united.com/2019-10-23-un...641076365.html

However nothing on NZ website still

Flight numbers are NZ1/ NZ2 ..so does that mean only 1x daily service to/from LAX (NZ6 /NZ5)

Highly doubt that LAX will drop to 1 flight a day, its still awhile away so you could assume NZ3/4 may be re-timed

You are right. Nothing gets up the nose of a real Noo Yorkah than some bridge-n-tunnel person claiming to live in the Big Apple!

Yes. But the advertising from here will definitely be promoting flights to the "Big Apple".

Hmm, right. Because I usually tell people I am flying into Longford, not London (LHR); or Roissy-en-France, not Paris (CDG); or Mangere, not Auckland

So it's not a flight to Te Kuiti?

It’s a 96.40 USD includes tip Uber trip from NYC to EWR !

*** It was actually $96.40 USD

I did not say it was a bad thing, just making a statement on the Uber ride. Public transport was not practical and was considered.

EWR > Midtown: 15 miles
JFK > Midtown: 14.4 miles

Airtrain Newark > Northeast Corridor > Midtown: 1 hour
Airtrain JFK > Port Jeff line or Far Rockaway line > Midtown: 1 hour

Honestly, they're almost exactly the same distance (EWR a bit closer to downtown).

Yet it’s a flat fare 62usd for taxi to JFK from Manhattan. Was that Uber surge pricing?!

Edit: Seeing 40-70 with Uber currently

Uber app is quoting ~$70 right now from Midtown to EWR (6am EST on a Thursday), so I guess it's a few dollars more than the JFK flat taxi fare.

Regardless of a few more dollars either way to get to and from EWR, I'll definitely be taking this flight northbound once it commences.

Will still return via LAX or SFO with a night or two on the West Coast; I'm not toooo motivated to spend 17h40 on the return leg just to get home and go to the office.

The only real question that matters is...will the planes have updated business class seats. i.e. not the worlds-worst flip over, stare at each others heads/IFE's/feet seats. The people and food are great! The seats suuuuck.

As someone who always takes mass transit to/from NYC-area airports (and lives in NYC), I still think that mass transit options at JFK for getting to Manhattan (and other parts of New York) are better than at EWR.

For one thing, JFK has also access to the subway via Airtrain so you can connect to the A/E/J (making trips to lower Manhattan easier), as well as trains from Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal (better for large parts of Brooklyn).

The other thing is that the weekend timing for trains from Newark Airport to NY Penn on NJT results in long gaps every hour in the schedule -- for example, this Saturday there is an 10:59, 11:06, 11:15 and 11:21 train from Newark Airport to NY Penn; then there's a 45 minute wait for the next train at 12:06, then 12:16, 12:18 and then another 41-minute wait for the next train at 12:59. There's a similar gap between the 13:17 and 14:04 (47 min), the 14:18 and 15:06 (48 min), etc. It's incredibly annoying to arrive at Newark Airport station and released you've just missed three trains within the last 15 minutes and now you have to wait 45 minutes for the next train.

By contrast from Jamaica to Penn Station the LIRR trains are more evenly spaced out: this Saturday we've got 10:54, 11:01, 11:14, 11:22, 11:39, 12:01, 12:14, 12:22, 12:29, 12:54, 13:01, 13:14, 13:22, 13:39, 13:54, 14:01, 14:14, 14:22, 14:39, 14:54, 15:01, 15:14, etc. The longest gap is 25 minutes, and in 4.5 hours there's only one of these. And of course there's always the subway if for some the reason the LIRR isn't working, whereas at Newark the only game in town is New Jersey Transit rail.
