Status Points Run - Silver to Gold
Looking for advice. I'm 87 status points off Gold, need to earn SP by 20 August 2019. Any tips for the cheapest / easiest way to achieve this? I'll get 10-15 from credit card before then. From what I can gather it'll cost around $1k to get this, although I've been looking at this with severe jet lag :-) I'll be travelling to Europe again next year, so I think it's probably worth chasing the points. Thanks!

20SP is about $150 tops, less if you're wanting multiple flights (remember even $39 main trunk flights are 8SP per flight)
Really depends on where you're based and where you want to fly..

OP needs 87 status points by 20th August and thinks s/he may be able to get 10-15 from credit cards before then, meaning s/he needs to earn a further 72-77 SPs by the 20th. Not sure where this idea of subtracting 20 from the 87 comes from (have people misread the 20th date as needing 20?)
Asia on sale would seem to me to be the fastest way of doing it, and could combine it with a long weekend at the same time. Otherwise it's the domestic shuttle?

There’s another beaut someone posted in another thread for SP so have a search. Was a domestic run. Asia might be tiring and more time consuming. I did a screenshot but on phone at the moment.

Need 87 SP
How many from flights and how many from credit card ?
If you can get 87 from credit card and you do not need flights then maybe just pay some rates or tax ...they are surcharged but a lot cheaper than flights

I looked into this for fun.
I took a random day with domestic fares on sale - August 14th.
8:30am - 9:35am (AKL - WEL) - $39 8sp
10:04am - 11:05am (WEL - CHC) - $89 8sp
12:05 - 1:05 (CHC - WEL) $69 8sp
1:35 - 2:35pm (WEL - CHC) $89 8sp
3:05 - 4:05pm (CHC - WEL) $69 8sp
4:35pm - 5:35pm (WEL - CHC) $269 21 sp - flexi ticket
6pm - 7:20pm (CHC - AKL) $259 18sp - flexi ticket
TOTAL: $883 / 77 SP so you'd need that extra 10 or so SP you'll get from your card. If you think you'll get extra SP than just 10 you could downgrade some flexi tickets to normal tickets.
Looking into it, it's either do this or take a long haul flight there/back. Honolulu in The Works looked to be your cheapest ($860 for 74 SP if you get the on-sale fares going right now). Neither options are convenient, but at least this one would take 1 day versus 2 whole days spent on a plane in an economy seat. I would definitely pick this over a return Honolulu flight unless I was going to somehow make a vacation out of it.
