A pure mileage run and using up my remaining RU before it expires - so had the choice of LAX or SFO and chose this route as looked like more chance of upgrade clearing. It worked out!

Route AKL-SIN-AKL
Outbound end of Feb and inbound 12 days later.
PE-Business
Applied 2RUs 10 months out. Neither cleared immediately.
When I booked I thought the route was a 777 but after booking it became a V2 789. I now realise it’s seasonal.
Two-three months out swapped to a V1 and both business and PE were zeroed out - not surprising.
Then 6 weeks before flying back to V2.
RU for AKL-SIN cleared a week out.
Return showed a business cabin fully booked one month out.
Due to family events had to change the return to 5 days earlier. AirNZ wouldn’t transfer the RU over as was from previous year. I used airpoints dollars and the upgrade cleared in the lounge in Singapore.

Good to see the success with the EAPDU, and that the otherRU cleared.

Whilst that might seem a bit stingy, it was a pax initiated change and I suppose their process is to firstly ‘refund’ the RU (if it is still valid) and then re-apply it to the changed flight. I wonder if it’d be honoured if AirNZ needed to move you (eg cancelled service etc), assuming there was space available.

I know because when I asked about another date they said "we can move you to that date, but we cannot confirm the RU upgrade"

Route AKL SIN (day flight) and SIN AKL (o/n)
Class PE-J
Status - both elites
Types EAPD x3 and 1 x RU
Lodged. T -355 and T- 341 (aprox)
Cleared about 3-4 weeks post booking. Out was 787 v2 and back was 777
AT time of booking there were no R class either way but no tickets had been booked (in PE or J) after discussion with agents. R class must have been added
One gold got upgraded (overheard he was the only upgrade) and only 5 Elites in the cabin (of 47 seats - one seat was broken). Clearly NZ do sell these
