Answered my own question, looks like you can reserve them for 30 $.... even on the seat+bag fare:

In case you are not aware, you can access cheaper fare classes by booking on airnz.co.nz. (ie not the .com), also checkout grabaseat.co.nz - specials page updated daily.

Yes - I was going to come back to post that I've booked my AKL-CHC-AKL flights (787-9 out and 772 back) and have reserved Business Premier seats on both legs

The service has been extended yet again and will operate daily (more or less) from Tuesday (3 April) until 2nd October.

I was actually looking at WLG-CHC flights last night. The extra A320 flights are only until the end of June, with the normal schedule of ATR flights resuming on Mon 2nd July at this stage.

Is there somewhere we can find out the ATR72-600 delivery schedule?

Also guess from next week we will see some 500s go into the shop for decommissioning and ferry checks?

They're probably yet to release the extra A320 flights as the 789 flights beyond 2nd July have only been released today.

Wonder if a new ATR72-600 arriving will help things?

The Business Premier seats become free to select T-2 days before the flight (as per usual for preferred seats on domestic A320 flights)

I got hit today by the 787 situation on my AKL-CHC trip. It was originally scheduled as a 787, but was changed to a 777-300! Probably as a side effect of the change (and as mentioned in the 787 thread), my seat reservation disappeared and I was allocated 37C during online check-in instead of 9K. I mentioned it when I got to the airport and fortunately it was corrected without any fuss.

My return flight now appears to be on a 787 whereas it was originally going to be a 772 - I'm not holding my breath though!

Question for hose who have flown on these flights - how full have they been? They've joined 2 x A320 services together but it doesn't mean everybody will want to fly at that time, but obviously some people will book these flights just for the novelty factor.
