I agree that award seats esp business/ first class seats are probably the best way to use up my AP but at the moment it seems pretty impossible.
I'm moving from UK so will need all the baggage allowances I can get, and most of the airlines, even in J, are not generous with their allowances at all.

I've pretty much resigned myself to using my remaining Airpoints for domestic redemptions - there's still some good use there for shuttling your nice family members around the country!

Are you sure about that? The chart specifically says "Per One-way Sector Between" zones. So you'll be looking at 2380+2380 to do Australia to Europe one way in First.
