I was that told the new rule for changes is 72 hours - I had lodged some oneups in March for flights last Friday and the initial defer emails had said bid could be changed up until 72h pre flight - I tried to acccss the bids and the system said it was too late so I inquired of Air NZ who said that because the bids had been lodged before rule change the cutoff for these was 7 days but in future would be 72 hours. Despite plenty of spare capacity they were only approved at T-6h which of course means one must take a gamble if one of the reasons for wanting the oneup is extra luggage. There had been an equipment change with a refurbished 777-300 without spaceseat replacing a spaceseat 777-300 so availability of PE seating actually had increased and this was known by T-7d. My recent experience with both long haul and shorthaul oneups is that they seem to be approved earlier ex NZ than heading inward to NZ.

Excellent context--thanks mate. This is a 777-200 so the newer PE (which I prefer regardless). Seat map shows 13 unassigned seats. Fingers crossed.

There's still time to increase your chance of travelling in one of our premium cabins. You can amend your offer up to seven days (72 hours) prior to departure.
Just got this in an email from NZ, looks like someone doesn't know 72hours in three days :D

one up with gold status

So, looking to upgrade Auck to singapore to Premier, it's says at $390 my bid is weak but I don't feel it's worth more for just a better seat overnight as we don't need the lounge access or baggage.
Does my big at that include the upload percentage for gold status
I checked seats on my flight 3 weeks away and there are plenty avail in pe

Question: If I got an email saying the offer is still being reviewed 9-7 hours before departure is this a good sign it's going to clear?

No.

It just means it wasn't automatically declined at T-72 as there is limited space so like any form of upgrade *may* clear.

It's more hopeful than an outright email saying it was declined though.

I'm surprised they don't offer people the chance to improve their odds by bidding just a "bit" more to maximise their revenue.

sbiddle May 31, 2017 9:33 pm

Some (but not all) OneUp bidders get an email at 7 days out encouraging you bid more.

jawnbc May 31, 2017 9:33 pm

Mine in the past year waiting for the 9-7 hour decision have split 4 cleared and 2 did not. Flights to or from YVR IAH RAR LAX.

Wonder with the 77W refit in process, with some routes they probably will only know if there are spare seats very close to depature e.g the refit has 10 more PE seats.
