My flights are in October too, NZ105 and NZ118, currently $100 for each, if the first one fails, I will change the return flights to $150 just to see how it goes. Hope this can help ur decision for the December flight.

Really that much:eek: I could pay QF for a Business Class sales fare with that kind of premium on top of a regular economy fare for that, and get points and status credits.
That is much more likely to succeed unless you have a number of GE wanting to bid against you.

I'd be interested to know if your friend has status (ie, S, G, GE) or if that was their actual bid.

Also, I think there was something mentioned about taking into consideration how many previous successful bids a pax had made - may be part of their new approach to "level the playing field" and giving everyone else a turn.

It would be useful if folk could include both the status associated with bids and date and flight number - or fare bucket availability around the seven day mark if available.

The amateur revenue analyst in me is actually genuinely interested in what the outcome of the new upgrades system is. (The professional traveller in me isn't, and flies other airlines...)

Ok so Ive done some digging and have more details for you all.. My friend is a NZ*S and those rates were grossed up.. What they actually paid was as follows.

AKLSYD $265.00
SYDRAR $225.00
RARAKL $175.00

Also asked why they didn't just buy QF business class special fare.

It was because Air NZ fly direct from SYD to RAR and QF dont. Also they said that QF was $2400 AKLSYDAKL yet Air NZ was only $1065.00 economy class (AKL/SYD/RAR/AKL) and then they paid $665 for upgrades. So this means a total cost of $1730.00 which is still way cheaper than a QF business class tkt just to SYD and back.

They also wanted to get the status points on Air NZ and all the flights were on Long haul aircraft but apparently QF only use 737s? They said they had a 777-300 AKLSYD a 767 SYDRAR and 777-200 RARAKL...

All the flights were in the first two weeks of August..

I'm a *GE. Bid AD220 AKL-SFO and it was successful (to PE). Have another bid in coming home LAX-AKL next week and will see how my AD220 looks for that....

Once you are in the one up screen, there is a sliding scale, far left is no bid, far right is $800 for transtasman.. When you move the scale one notch up from no bid, it shows the minimum bid of $100.. Not sure about other flights..

I'm Gold, so I get 30% uplift, GE gets 50%, and S gets 10%.

is the $220 before the uplift for being a GE?

My bid of AD440 for AKL-LAX to PE failed. I'm *S.

Will see how the standby upgrade turns out for my return flight--requested that before it went to the new system. Should have done that for the AKL-LAX flight as well--long story.
