FB members on ITA airways

Good news for those flying with ITA airways (heir of the defunct Alitalia)
Starting from today FB members will earn miles and XP points on ITA flights sold by ITA itself.
This will make such flights interesting again for those who -since the past- were flying AZ but crediting miles on FB.
Until today it was possible only with ITA flights sold by AF/KL.

Great news! Let’s see how for long before the ITA takeover by LH group.

I have to say, I am really surprised that this change came in.

The status quo had persisted for so long, I genuinely didn't think there was any will to change things...particularly when the expectation is that AZ will likely be leaving for Star Alliance in the not too distant future

In the business world, every move by the corporation is profit driven. I imagine either FB(AF+KL) or ITA or both finally figure out they need each other in order to make more money at this moment. I am sure AF+KL have compared their current data with their historical data from partnering with AItalia.

Indeed good news but I just tried to book a trip on the ITA website and it does not allow me to introduce my FB number.
Guess it will take a few days.

There were ALWAYS issues with getting each others' numbers entered correctly in the old Alitalia days.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for anything to change in the short term

I had been considering a trip to Italy at short notice - also because my matched AZ status is about to expire without me ever having used it, despite having had it prolonged for an extra year ( ) - so maybe this is the sign I needed to go ahead and book this trip...

Fantastic news, was looking at booking a weekend in Italy in December. Time to lock that in now!

With two domestic legs, one could easily rack up 27 XP each way in business – for instance, CDG-LIN-FCO-PMO (15+6+6).
54 XP for around 350 EUR = 6.5 EUR/XP. Decent value

Good point...

I wonder if there are cheap business classes (in the vein of UX) which won't earn.

I seem to recall that, in the old Alitalia days, there was at least one business fare class that was non-earning in Flying Blue....

No, unfortunately the effect is not retrospective. Only flights taken from today onwards will earn.

You can, of course, claim for any earlier ITA flights in their own programme, or one of the few other programmes that were already offering miles/credit for ITA flights.

They have a very cheap Biz class but in the booking process they don’t indicate the fare bucket, or I could not find it.
Have a trip planned for January but will try to contact them by phone before booking to make sure it is earning in FB.
If I manage to clarify it, I will post it here.

These are the classes that EF believes are applicable for AZ:

A random search shows European roundtrips for 137 euro per direction (I class, fare only). Thats about 350 roundtrip. When combined with BF discount that may be an unbeatable deal for 60XP..
If anyone is wondering, fare class is displayed under "Rules and conditions" --> "Unformatted" and fold open the first section.

Question is how long this partnership is going to last, though. If they are moving to LH... will we even reach 6 months?
