I found an article (in Dutch) that states that certain code shares (and frequent flier benefits) will continue after 1/1/20. This includes AF and KL.

Does anyone have the official information?

From China Southern official press release dated 24 december 2019:
(Can't post link as it's my first post
h t t p : csair dot com /en/about/investor/qitabaogao/2019/resource/d8f2eddb19780fd4f737bc737f3131c6.pdf)

  • China Southern will officially leave the SkyTeam Alliance on 1 January 2020
  • from (and including) 1 January 2020 (...) the privileges of (...) the Elite/ Elite Plus members of the SkyTeam Partners will remain unaffected when they fly with the Company, including priority check-in, priority luggage drop-off, priority boarding and access to VIP lounges, etc.
Seems like a great news !
Let's see how it is enforced in the field.
Last month I had to insist to access Daxing lounge when I flew PKX-HKG with them

There is an statement on China Southern' website.
On their list there is no Kenya Airways and as everybody know they have Flying Blue as FFP. So I am very curious how this play out.

China Southern Airlines will have completed all transitional work for its withdrawal from SkyTeam Alliance by December 31, 2019 and will officially leave the Alliance on January 1, 2020.

Through bilateral cooperation, China Southern will continue to maintain code-share partnerships with its existing SkyTeam partners and frequent flyer cooperation will be continued with:

● Aeroflot
● Aerolineas Argentinas
● Air Europa
● Air France
● Alitalia
● China Airlines
● Czech Airlines
● Delta Air Lines
● KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
● Korean Air
● Middle East Airlines
● Saudi Arabian Airlines
● Vietnam Airlines
● Xiamen Airlines

China Southern Sky Pearl Club members will continue to be entitled to mileage accrual, redemption and elite member services when flying with the above-mentioned SkyTeam partners.

Concurrently from January 1, 2020 onward, China Southern will officially launch its CZ Priority service brand to discontinue the use of SkyPriority on its own flights.

This new program will ensure that the privileges of all China Southern gold and silver card holders as well as Elite/Elite Plus members of the above-mentioned SkyTeam partners remain unchanged when they fly with China Southern, including priority check-in, priority luggage drop-off, priority boarding and access to VIP lounges, etc.

For additional information concerning China Southerns cooperation with its varied airline partners, please visit the official website of China Southern Sky Pearl Club at: https://skypearl.csair.com/en/.

China Southern continues to be committed to its decades-long Customer First philosophy, joining hands with its partners to create additional travel value for passengers.

In addition to its SkyTeam airline partners, China Southern has accelerated the expansion of its global circle of friends, by establishing bilateral code-share partnerships with:

● American Airlines
● British Airways
● Emirates
● Finnair
● Japan Airlines
● Qantas
● Qatar Airways

These long-standing airline relationships push forward China Southerns global route network, through which passengers can travel to all major destinations around the world when flying with China Southern and its partners.

China Southern began comprehensive frequent flyer cooperation with American Airlines on March 20, 2019, and signed a joint venture cooperation agreement with British Airways on December 17, 2019, with frequent flyer cooperation expected to go live in June 2020.

With the determined vision to enhance global connectivity and create a better life, China Southern is dedicated to providing passengers with safe, comfortable and convenient air travel services by establishing new international partnerships.

So it looks like there's not going to be a massive difference to their relation with SkyTeam, so I as a Flying Blue member could continue to fly China Southern and collect miles and XPs.

We will still earn FB Miles and XP but what SkyPriority would give (e.g. extra free baggage etc.) no longer happens due to the exit from SkyTeam, so that will be the difference, yes?

So it's not too overall bad in the end. With FB you can already earn XP with some partner airlines that are not in SkyTeam (e.g. Bankok Airways) so that will be great if we can still earn with China Southern. I have found CZ a surprisingly good and useful airline. Wonder what the lounge situation would be for status members: I would assume non-existent.

The above is taken from the article quoted by NGX. It seems that for now nothing is changing for Skyteam elites, except for the SkyPriority branding/

That's really excellent if it turns out like it is written here. For us, the customer, not a lot will change, apparently.
It seems like a lot of the big airlines want to escape the shackles of the big alliances, for example LATAM Airlines too.

I fear for the execution though, as the current policies are vague. CZ is sort of pretending that nothing changes for SkyTeam Elite (Plus) members but officially they are not in ST any more. So passengers cannot rely on the official Skyteam alliance lounge policy for example.
I also doubt Skypearl elite members qualify for Skypriority as this is technically a SkyTeam-only product. So agents worldwide must be aware that a PAX flashing a Skypearl Gold card but without SP on their boardingpass is eligible for priority check-in, boarding etc.? It defeats the purpose of a uniform, simplified product across an airline alliance.

I think Skypearl member are the biggest loosers here, they will not have Skypriority benefits outside of China

So, basically:
  • China Southern, not Skyteam = You earn XP on flights
  • Transavia, Flying Blue member and part of AF/KLM = No XP on flights

I don't think that the concept of "loser" is that simple.
CZ just updated its page regarding partners a few days ago. We don't know if FB will also update its CZ page or whether its "old" page is current.
Apparently some posters worry about Skypriority. That is a Skyteam branding and I understand well that CZ wishes to change the branding
It could be Skypearl members will loose the priority service on ST airlines, just like FB pax will lose it on CZ. But it seems that there is a reciprocal agreement and that is what CZ says. SO really few changes.

The big change is that MU is now excluded, and that was a major motivation for CZ to leave ST.

Personally, I think that Skypearl members are big winners. They keep their benefits with AF/KL/DL and will have new ones with BA and AA in their quickly-expanding agreements.

Life is livable and travel is bearable without Sky Priority, you just have to budget a bit more time for security etc. I did plenty of trips before when I didn't have Sky Priority. More important, the way I see it, is the ability to earn miles and XPs, as well as have lounge access as SkyTeam Elite Plus. We'll just have to wait and see what emerges over the coming days and weeks.
