AF plans major flight number shuffle for the next 12 months (28MAY09)

AIRFRANCE appears to be planning a major flight number shuffle for the next 12 months.

Service to Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle already saw the change for 2009 Summer. ATL is in AF6xx and Detroit/Seattle in AF3xx

In Winter 2009/10, Bamako, Chicago, Houston, Miami will see the change of flight number.

US destinations mentioned above will be using AF6xx flight number while Bamako gets AF30xx

As of 28MAY09, AIRFRANCE from the launch of 2010 Summer timetable will be shuffling flight numbers across Middle East, Central Africa, Caribbean, and Indian Ocean
  • Indian Ocean / Caribbean AF4xx/6xx/9xx changes to AF35xx
  • Middle East (excluding Beirut & Tel Aviv) AF5xx changes to AF38xx
  • Africa (excluding selected destinations) New flight number ranges is scattered to AF7xx / 8xx / 30xx

The list of the flight number changes is the following:

I personally would like rationalization of JFK flight numbers.

I understand these are legacies, like AF 008, but I would like some scheduling to be reflected in times. Fine to keep 8 for the 19h10 departure, but then I would prefer that the 16h35 departure be 7, not 10 etc.

It is not a big deal, but for me it would make life just a little bit easier for my almost weekly trips.

Well it shouldn't be 7 as that should be the matching flight in the reverse direction, if anything it should be 6.
