CDG 2 - AF terminal - Satellites S3 and S4 - future trends

As we are getting close to the phased opening of Satellite S3 (from June to November 2007), it may be interesting to have a specific thread devoted to this new boarding area, linked to 2F and 2E, while keeping other issues in the CDG FAQ or in specific threads. Regarding a specific thread for Satellite S4 (2011-2012) and CDG 4 (2016), let's wait just a little bit

Context : overall ADP investment plan for 2007-2011

Upcoming milestones for CDG 2 (in French) http://www.airfrance.com/double6/pas...b?OpenDocument
- 2007 - June-November : phased opening of S3
- 2008 - summer : re-opening of the central part of the 2E boarding area
- 2008 - fall : opening of the Schengen part of 2G, the terminal for regional aircrafts
- 2008 - winter : 2F2 shifts from non-Schengen flights to Schengen flights

- Satelllite S3 will also be called Galerie Parisienne
- It seems that, starting this summer, AF may decrease its activity in the "old" satellites, starting with 2B.

The A380 should be in CDG in early June (2nd and 3rd, unless I am mistaken) to test the facilities in S3.

The A380 should arrive this afternoon for a two days test of the CDG infrastructure, including the S3 jetways. It is scheduled to leave for NRT on Sunday.

Now why does that not surprise me...?
But jokes aside, the S3 is long overdue and will make CDG a lot more competitive and enjoyable hub at which to transfer.

A380 in CDG - S3 test

ADP Press kit (in French)

Videos (in French). The links will probably be operational for just a few days.

- CDG upgrade for A380 LCI

- Arrival of A380 in CDG LCI

Question Future of 2A and 2B?

Quite nice. It says nothing about the future of 2A and 2B. In the latest (June) issue of Air France Magazine, I read page 186 that 2A and 2B will close down in summer 2008:

(...) since the hub is gradually shifting to the eastern sectors of the airport. Scheduled for 2008: the reopening of Terminal 2E (in March); the closing down of terminals 2A and 2B (in summer); and the inauguration of the regional terminal 2G (...)
CDG is slowly moving eastwards. I bet they will merge with SXB in 3097.

It will be closed for AF operations but not for others carriers because there will be jetbridges for one A380 in 2A (like one in T1, 2C and 2F too)
