Purchasing Extra Seat

I’m getting conflicting information and would appreciate any advice on if the following is possible and the best way to go about this. I’m traveling with my family TATL for RDU-CDG-ARN-CDG-RDU. 2 flights are AF and the 2 euro flights are SAS. We are business class on all flights except the AF RDU-CDG, which is economy. Because we will have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, I’d like to try to buy an extra seat, so the kids could have some extra room to sleep better. I’d like to have the middle 4 seats in the 777.

I read where this is possible. However, this is only needed on 1 of our 4 booked flights. So I’m not certain if the system would allow 1 extra seat on 1 flight for a single PNR with 3 passengers and a lap infant. I called AF to inquire about this, but the rep spoke about bassinets and car seats for the infant in the seat. I tried to explain that she will remain a lap infant and it’s about more space for the family as whole. I got the sense they didn’t understand or didn’t know.

I’d appreciate any insight on if I should call back or if this isn’t possible. Thanks in advance.
