CDG: No bag drop-off EARLIER than 2,5/2 hours before departure

Received a message from Air France saying bags cannot be dropped off earlier than 2,5 hours for intercontinental flights and 2 hours for European flights.

Anyone know if this applies also to Business Class / Sky Priority… 😄

To answer my own question, there were no issues in checking in before this “deadline” at the SkyPriority counters today at CDG (Terminal 2E)

Was the message specifically about CDG? It's typically fine at CDG because it is a hub with continuous check in by their own staff (though they may have had too many people checking in very early because of worries about mess across all airports and tried to discourage it?), but for outstations, AF like most other majors will likely only open check in counters about 2 hours before for European/domestic flights and about 3 hours for long haul ones. There are exceptions like TLV which routinely encourage earlier check in.

This is for CDG. Baggage chaos for the last 2-3 weeks. Not enough baggage handlers, etc etc

Exactly. I had however thought this was largely a legacy issue now at CDG following the malfunction/strike the two weeks ago. But it seems to go on …

AT some airports, checking bags very early increases the risk of mishandling. Bags are then sent to a common holding area rather than to the specific flight area.
I don't know how bag handling at CDG is organized.

I have an overnight connection today via CDG - leaving very early tomorrow morning (flight at 7:25). How risky is it to leave the checked baggage overnight in CDG these days? Should I ask to deliver it tonight? I have no problem waking up a little earlier, and I'm ultimate so I hope to get escorted to skip the lines in 2F...

I'd drop the bag off tomorrow morning.

Given the situation actuelle, leaving things overnight increases the chance of things getting mishandled.

Fully agree. Too risky.

It's like that at CDG. I remember having heard recently that this "holding area" has a capacity of 5000 bags, which is low.

Thanks. It was extremely boring to get the baggage from 2G and then move to 2F outside to sleep at Sheraton, but my bag is with me at RHO this morning.

The same should be true for ORY, but a few years ago they refused to take my bag about 6 hours before departure (despite the fact that I was in transit after arriving on another flight at CDG). But they did let me go through security, so I ended up keeping the bag and spending those hours in the lounge (which is not a place you would ever choose to spend 6 hours).

Normally I would not hesitate to do this, but yesterday they failed to load my bag. There are many flights a day, so it was relatively painless, but this won't be true for most destinations.
