YVR-LHR-MAN
MAN-LHR-YYC-YVR

Only the LHR/MAN are on BD in Y class - rest on AC on SJ.

Total: 80,000 points and $402.75 in taxes (does NOT include call centre fee)

Shocking.

Shocking.

Most of hat was because of the fuel on AC and then the premium class surcharge into LHR; but the bulk is the AC fuel.

Taxes went up overnight

I had ticketed a few NRT-SIN-ICN-NRT flights for 20k + $17 in taxes (had to be manually calculated in the last few days and today the taxes are automatically pricing at $76.

I was informed that they changed their electronic system overnight...

dbl_k Dec 9, 2009 5:01 am

Is that for a specific airline? ANA? SQ?

I did eventually manage to get a vague ballpark figure of perhaps $400.

For just round-trip YYZ-CDG alone (AC non-stop) I got hit with $335.55 in taxes and surcharge, which is the same amount as for a regular booking. The breakdown as follows:

Canada Security Charge (CA) 17.00
Carrier Admin. Service Charge (YQ) 224.00
Combined taxes, fees, charges and surcharges (XT) 94.55

Further details on the XT charge:

This is an Economy reward ticket (booking class X).

Yyz > icn > nrt > yyz: $226.45

I haven't booked award travel myself for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when I could construct the following itinerary via the website with relative ease (thus saving the Call Centre fee)

25-Mar: YYZ > IAD > NRT > ICN via UA 8066 > NH001 > UA 891
1-Apr: ICN > NRT via OZ 104
2-May: NRT > SEA > YYZ via UA876 > AC540

It was all in Y for 75K and the website gave me fees of $226.45. Hopefully the seats are still available once my brother decides.

Glad to see the website has evolved!

Wow, how come yours is so much more expensive than mine?

I booked a YYZ-ORD-NRT-HKG-SIN and SIN-NRT-ORD-YYZ for Aug of next year on business class and I paid only $140 and change (this with the $31.50 fee) Like yourself, I am flying on UA, NH and SQ and no AC...

$80 difference. I'd attribute it to the SEA > YYZ segment (AC540).

After posting, I redid the itinerary using as much AC metal as possible (made YYZ > ICN outbound and NRT > YYZ on the return) and the fees went up to ~ $320.

Of course, if doing this in Y (vs. J) then I'd pay a bit more to get AC's IFE.

YMMV.

YEGflyer Dec 16, 2009 12:57 am

Yesterday, I booked YXE-LIM/SCL-YXE, all in AC J for $151.25. No booking fee since I booked online.

Not a big fan of the IFE. I rather have better food, better service and better AVOD, so i went with NH. But to each it's own

PEK-NRT AIR CHINA
NRT-YYZ AIR CANADA
YYZ-SFO AIR CANADA
SFO-PEK UNITED

Taxes/fees total was CAD317 and 75K miles all in economy; would have been CAD250ish if I had used UA on the third segment.

Hmmm, nice. We're planning a family reunion and have picked China... My dad has been dreaming about going to Tibet - so a similar itinerary would be perfect - either Y or J.

Love the Asia 1 awards. as I'm ex-BKK. We did BKK-NRT in J rewards 2 years ago. TG's ROP costs way more points for that distance.

SirJman Dec 17, 2009 9:51 am

I just did in J
ICN-HKG(TG 777)
HKG-SIN (SQ A380)

SIN-PVG (SQ 777-200)
PVG-ICN (OZ 777-200)

30,000M and 39,17CAD in taxes.

doesun Jan 6, 2010 8:16 am

I just attempted to make a *A award booking on the website and noticed a CAD5 Aeroplan service fee. This is in addition to the airport taxes and surcharges. There was no E-ticket/delivery fee.

This is the first time that I have seen this $5 fee for online award bookings.

phedre Jan 6, 2010 8:47 am

Treated my brother and I to exec class to NOLA for a week. ClassicFlight rewards, 40k miles per.

Mine: YOW -> YYZ -> IAD -> MSY

Security charge: 7.94
GST: 4.25
Combined taxes, fees, etc: 137.70

Brother: YQM -> YYZ -> IAD -> MSY

Security charge: 7.94
GST: 3.50
Combined taxes, fees, etc: 139.65

What about AC flight on ANA award?

I posted a question on ANA forum but have received no reply. Anyone know if these AC surcharges apply for an award booked on ANA? I priced LGA-YYZ-TLV,
AC; TLV-BRU,SN; BRU-PHL,US at over 500.00 in taxes compared to a TK outbound at 249.00.

Braindrain Jan 19, 2010 7:36 pm

Generally speaking, fuel surcharges don't come up when booking on partner airlines.

cysnows Jan 24, 2010 7:28 pm

YYZ NRT - J AC1
NRT HKG - J NH909
HKG YZ - J AC15

$277.95

Booked one of these last year an it was only $14x.xx!

Mauricio23 Jan 25, 2010 1:36 pm

Booked 3 Y tickets for YVR>YYZ>EZE>YYZ>YVR in December 2010. Two at the classic level (50k), and one at the elite priority rewards level (100k). Had to call, as the website does not allow for separate levels on the same booking.

$223.05 each, plus the telephone booking fee.

pilotboy1985YYC Jan 25, 2010 5:32 pm

I just got off the phone with Aeroplan

YHZ-YYC (stop)
YYC-YYT (stop)
YYT-YHZ (stop)

40,000 Aeroplan Miles X 2 tickets, all in J class

$114.45 per person pluc the booking fee.

I paid the booking fee because AE.com would not allow this routing, I called AE and the agent told me it was back tracking so I'd have to pay for the YYT-YHZ leg myself. I hung up, called again and a different AE agent was happy to break the rules for me. :)

joet00 Jan 28, 2010 9:55 pm

YYZ > LHR and AMS > YYZ

YYZ > LHR on AC
AMS > LHR > YYZ on BD then AC

All in J. Total cost: $277.45

Surprisingly, this was booked on AE.com -- no need to speak to an agent.

The full story can be found here.

YVR - LHR (via YYC) for 2 pax in J came out to $1,400 for next November. It's misleading to call that a reward IMO.

YWG-YYZ-GCM-YYZ-YWG all AC in Y

$190.00 per person x2 plus call centre fee even though it wasn't available on the AP website.

Not as good as my recently completed trip in F to BKK, which was not on AC (UA,OZ,TG,NH) and was only $70.00 and change.

I don't know what you were referring to, the 25K cost or the $139 in taxes....

For the fees, were there no UA or CO..or US?! flights that you could book?
