Are headphone adapters free on E75/E90?
Hello all,
The E75 and E90 still have two-prong headphone outlets and we always get an adapter with our headsets in J.
They charge $3 for headsets in Y now, but if you bring your own headset do they hand out a free adapter in Y?
Thanks!

From a recent booking confirmation email...
... you know, bring along your own headset... in order to... save the earth?
Bring along your favourite headset
Did you know that each year, millions of used headsets are thrown away? You can help significantly reduce waste by bringing along your favourite headset each time you fly. We even provide complimentary adaptors onboard all aircrafts equipped with outlets not compatible with single-prong headset jacks.

Oddly enough, the few complaints about headsets no longer being free that I have heard on board have mostly come from people who had umpteen opportunities to keep the old, free ones, but didn't.
As far as I know, the adapters will remain free until they're no longer needed, i.e. when the Embraer and A-330 systems have been converted to single-prong jacks.

The adapters are definitely free if you bring your own headphones aboard. If you need them in combination with a pair of headphones from AC, you pay.

Doesn't that make sense? You ought to have seen the number of headsets that ended up destined for landfills at the end of our flights until we began charging for them on most routes. The idea when the disposable headset was introduced was that people would keep them to re-use on future flights. Few people did, so most headsets ended up in the trash bag. The $3 charge has definitely encouraged people to keep them, and waste has been drastically reduced.
I think if they where charging $3 for the same headphones as before you would see similar re-use rates as when they where free.
