Its a totally useless post.

YUL-YOW is not Rapidair, either.

Seat13F_AC_CRJ Nov 8, 2008 5:50 pm

You could always arrive at YYZ early enough for the 0800 flight and hope for a free upgrade from either the kiosk or the gate. If you lose out on the 763, you've got a leisurely hour to spend in the MLL... plenty of time a coffee or three and the hot toast you won't get on the E75!

I appreciate your and the previous poster's responses to YOW kid's comments. Personally, I will do not feel his response dignifies a counter-response on my part.

Yes, YUL-YOW is not Rapidair.

I will restate my question - is the food and beverage selection for YYZ-YUL flights the same or not, as with the YYZ-YUL flights. I will expand the question and ask if the Western Rapidair flights have the same food/beverage offerings as each other, and also with the offerings of the Central Canada Rapidair flights.

Except for breakfast flights, there is no hot food in Rapidair in J. It's a choice of 2 cold plates during meal hours.

I'm sure I had warm food earlier this year. It definitely used to be available for some flights at some times. When did it change?

Will cover all of the concerns here.

YYZ-YUL is considered short haul - YYZ-YOW is considered mini haul. Other short haul routes would include ORD/LGA/EWR/BOS/PHL, etc.

A choice of hot or cold snacks (2 choices) are catered on YYZ-YUL-YYZ flights operating between the hours of 10:31-14:00 & 17:00-20:00 on short haul flights ranging from :46 minutes to 1 hour :59 minutes in duration. Therefore YVR-YEG/YYC would fall within these meal periods and flying time paramaters. A hot choice comes and goes, and currently there is a choice of 2 chilled snacks.

Given the shorter flying time, 1 chilled choice is offered on YYZ-YOW-YYZ flights, regardless of aircraft type. On EMB 175/190 flights only chilled snacks are offered as there are no ovens on board. Again, 1 choice to YOW and 2 choices on the other routes.

From a marketing point of view, I don't think Rapidair is used in reference to Western triangle flights any longer (YVR/YEG/YYC) - perhaps A.Y. could confirm, merely as a point of interest.

Thanks, for the information. In terms of your reference relating to duration of the flight, you must be talking about actual flying time; YYZ-YOW gate to gate is (depending on the direction of the flight, wind, other factors etc) at least 1 hour in duration.

I've had flights as short as 33/34 minutes in the air, and that in the day, when a choice of hot/cold breakfast was served in both classes. It was insanity. Thus YYZ/YOW is classified as mini-haul along with YVR/YYJ and YYC/YEG.

What I find amusing about these posts...

Recently flew YYZ/MSP on NW in F/Class on a reward ticket. 35 year old
DC-9, no audio, no video and a choice of either a bagged banana OR a bag of chips during the breakfast hour on a 2 hour flight. Nobody said boo. It still ain't bad on this side of the border.

Thanks for all the replies.

Think I'll stick with the E-175, have an extra hour in the MLL after my red-eye from SFO, and put the $40 towards a nice meal in Montreal!

I agree with you. A few months ago, my daughter and I flew on AC from YYZ to LAS in business class and my wife flew in business (first-F) class on US Air on the same route. The departure times for both fligths were virtually identical. The flights left between 8:30 and 9 PM. We were served a nice hot meal - my wife told me that not even solid snacks were served in the front cabin on US - I guess that many US airlines serve no hot meals, even on North American long-haul flights, if the flight time is considered to be outside normal meal hours.

Hence my comments on not setting foot on a UA flight in 2008.I am off to ORD in December and went out of my way to stay on AC metal.:)

The Embraers don't have ovens? Taking the E90 for the 1st time on a transcon (YOW-YYC) and was worried about that statement.

Can anyone confirm?

Yes - none of the Embraers have ovens. Cold plates only.

Sorry,

I wouldn't be worried. Just my 2 cents, but I think some of the chilled meals are better than some of the hot - and on a YOW/YYC there will be a choice of 2.

Wondering if anybody knows if any airline operating the Embraers are oven-equipped. I wouldn't think any of the North American carriers offer hot meals on this aircraft.

Changed few months ago (around Jul). This is done to give the FAs more time since the actual amount of time for service on a Rapidair flight is very short and it includes a full bar service as well. Typical cold meals include cheese plate, roast beef potato salad, smoked salmon, chicken fruit salad. Breakfast is currently still a hot (omelette) or cold (fruit plate + cereal).
