Nexus interview locations

Hello,
As most of you all know by now, NEXUS is available at YYZ since Jan 12. For those that applied, do you know where the interview location will be? Also, has anyone gotten an interview yet?

Derek Feb 19, 2007 11:15 am

No interview yet, but there was a spot on the application to specify what interview location you wanted. I chose YUL.

As an aside, I had just renewed my Canpass in January for $50; I then applied for Nexus at the end of the month and they only put $30 on my Mastercard, so they're apparently consolidating the two memberships...

apkesh Feb 19, 2007 11:48 am

that's good to hear. My Canpass is due for renewal in 2 months. I'll probably just go ahead and renew Canpass first, as I don't have much faith in getting a Nexus interview in the next 2 months...:)

Good to know!

Thanks. I think I'll renew my CANPASS just in case Nexus has a backlog.

I should have applied for NEXUS awhile ago. I'm assuming that there was some announcement prior to T1 opening that it would be there. Oh well missed the boat on this, until then I'll be waiting in the customs line staring at those Nexus machines with anticipation.

MONTREAL, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Customs and Border
Protection Commissioner W. Ralph Basham announced today that the enrollment
center at Montreal's Pierre Trudeau International Airport is open for
travelers interested in applying for the NEXUS program. Passage kiosks will
be operational in the coming weeks.
An enrollment center in Toronto opened earlier this month where a NEXUS
kiosk is also operational. Expansion to the Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg,
Ottawa, and Halifax airports is expected by the end of 2007.

"This expansion is a perfect example of the cross-border coordination
at work to facilitate legitimate travel for residents of North America by
providing trusted travel lanes at airports, waterways and land crossings,"
said Commissioner Basham. "This program is a common-sense and modern way to
strike the right balance between enhanced security and faster, more
efficient travel between our countries."
NEXUS is a joint initiative of the Canada Border Services Agency and
the U.S. Customs and Border Protection that facilitates quick and secure
entry into Canada and the United States for pre-approved, low-risk
travelers.
The NEXUS Air pilot project, which was launched at the Vancouver
International Airport more than two years ago, was very successful and
resulted in nearly 7,000 travelers signing up for the program. The NEXUS
air mode uses non-invasive iris recognition technology to identify the
traveler and verify his or her membership in the program.
In December 2006, the NEXUS Air, Highway and Marine programs were
harmonized into a single program. Over 116,000 NEXUS members are now "in
for one, in for all" and can cross the border using any of the three modes
at participating locations. The projected enrollment due to expansion to
the above-mentioned cities is anticipated to exceed 155,000 members in the
next year.
NEXUS in the air mode meets the requirements of the Western Hemisphere
Travel Initiative air rules. A NEXUS card can serve as an alternative to a
passport when traveling to the United States by air at designated airports.
The travel initiative is a U.S. law that came into effect on January 23,
2007, for air travel and requires all travelers, including Canadian and
U.S. citizens, to carry a valid passport or other appropriate secure
document when traveling or returning to the United States.
For more information on any of CBP's trusted traveler programs NEXUS,
SENTRI or FAST, please click the "Travel" tab on cbp.gov. A complete list
of NEXUS enrollment center locations, phone numbers and hours of operation
is also available at cbp.gov or by calling 1-866-NEXUS 26.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within
the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control
and protection of our Nation's borders at and between official ports of
entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of
the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

Does anyone know if NEXUS Air is operational for U.S.-bound flights from Terminal 3?

Fiumicino Feb 26, 2007 8:21 pm

I remember seeing the enrolment centre on ground level, near door R.

I dropped by the Canpass office in T1 today, and based on all the people talking on the phone and scribbling down appointments, I would say you can assume that's where the Nexus interviews will be.

Also, they told me that if you already have Canpass with iris scan and Nexus ground, they already added the iris info to your Nexus account. I used the Nexus machines heading to the US from T1 and, by, golly, it worked. I get the impression I was just about the first person ever to use it heading to the U.S., since the customs guy who took my card scribbled NEXUS in red marker on my boarding pass, and the people at security were somewhat nonplussed to see my boarding pass without a customs stamp until I jogged their memory by showing my Nexus card. But it all worked.

How long did it take after you applied?

apkesh Feb 27, 2007 6:56 am

just a side note:
I believe if you have Nexus ground you are automatically enrolled in to Nexus air. If you are a Canpass holder, then you still need to apply for Nexus like I did. You will pay $80 cdn or $50 usd. This is because Canpass is only for coming IN to Canada and Nexus is for both US and Canada so I guess they need that extra cash to do the check on you in the US soil, to make sure you are clean.

never-up Feb 27, 2007 7:07 am

I sent in my application the first week of Jan and noticed the $80 charge on my Visa on my Feb statement but I have still not received a letter.

BondGuy Feb 27, 2007 8:29 am

US$50 or C$80

Wife and I applied a few weeks ago and I mailed in a couple of bank drafts for US$ 50 (worth approx C$ 60) and we have heard nothing back.

So, if you can buy bank drafts without heavy service charges, you may want to consider paying the fee in US$ to save C$ 20 or so per application.

Mar 22 update - Received the letter asking us to come in for an interview earlier this week, so apparently no problems for a Canadian paying US$ 50 by draft instead of C$ 80 by CC

You are correct - Nexus has rolled all 3 programs - air, land and marine - into one.

I've used the Nexus going into the US at Terminal 1 two times now and have been stopped both times for secondary and I also got the big red letters both times. I have to wonder if the US Immigration officers are unhappy about the Nexus program. The last comment to me yesterday was "You see, Nexus wasn't faster after all". It did sound to me that they assume some jobs will be eliminated because of this. Any one else get this kind of comment?

THAT'S nice... Scheech!

Isn't the idea that there is an iris scanner going into the US as well as coming back into Canada?

Using the CANPASS, I've never had to speak to anyone...
