OT: Harmony to codeshare to Sydney

Harmony Airways has applied to US DoT (PDF) for services to inter Hawaiian islands plus Sydney, Australia, through a codeshare agreement with Hawaiian Airlines. Docket number is 25054

Harmony's "HQ" code will be appearing on Hawaiian Airlines':

Honolulu-Hilo
Honolulu-Kahului
Honolulu-Kona
Honolulu-Lihue

Kona-Kahului

Lihue-Kahului

Hilo-Kahului

Honolulu-Sydney

Codeshare service should be launched within 45 days, it seems.

Huh. Well, HQ is certainly taking advantage of codeshare relationships, aren't they..

To think, you could fly YHZ-SYD on an HQ code the whole way. And the funny thing is, AC would probably put you on the same routing (YHZ-YYZ-YVR-HNL-SYD).

But how is HQ going to get the CA-AU route authority? I didn't think we had open skies yet..

The CA-US agreement allows for open third/fourth and fifth freedom codesharing, and CA-AU agreement allows for third country codesharing via any intermediate points to any point in Australia and to any points beyond.

As it stands now, I'm only seeing HA doing HNL-SYD on Tue., Thurs. & Sat. and the HQ YVR-HNL on Sun., Thurs. & Fri., so only day the connection works is Thurs., though the connections times aren't bad as HQ arrives HNL at 1115 and HA leaves at 1235. This could be a lighter winter schedule downunder with more frequent summer service planned, but not lots of choice and having much more frequent AC service I can't see it being much competition. Good deal for HQ however.

It takes a special mind to understand that stuff. Just think of what it takes to write it in the first place.

I'm sure they'll coordinate schedules once the codeshare is approved. I doubt HMY will go in with only one flight a week.

Think of what it takes to negotiate and to get the other party to agree with it!

Of course.

There should be no reason why they shouldn't get approved to operate the service (in theory and on the service of things at least as there are no air safety/security issues given that they already operate to the US).

Isn't that where "if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull****" comes in? LOL. They'd sooner agree to whatever it says then admit they have no idea what it's about LOL.
