Amex Aeroplanplus Platinum AC Companion Ticket

Have a quick question for you guys... tried AMEX but nobody seems to know on that side.

If I get the Plat card, can I use the companion ticket for a first class flight from Toronto to Athens (it is a star alliance flight - Lufthansa, Toronto to Munich to Athens).

Any help is appreciated... thanks!

Nope, all flights must be AC metal with AC flight numbers. No STAR partners nor connections to/from STAR partner metal flights, even codeshares using AC flight numbers.

There are several threads on this subject, suggest you do a Search if you want more information about how this program works. There was a major thread started earlier this week, so scroll back to page 2 or 3 of this index page for this forum and you'll likely find it.

The fine print does seem to suggest AC only, nick.

Can you give your certificate to someone else to use?

You may want to consider checking out the "proper" Amex Plat card and their airline program:

Unlimited full fare 2-for-1s on a number of airlines (but not AC unfortunately).

Looks like the Amex Platinum is a much better if you do not need MLL access... at 1.5 points per dollar with the ability to transfer to Aeroplan plus companion tickets on some airlines, looks like a done deal.

Not on 1st Class LH.....only biz. A few Canadian TAs might have a C for A on LH flights from Canada.

But Amex 2-for-1 tickets must be booked and issued through Amex Platinum Travel service, so cannot use other TAs.

Wrong again Shareholder.....!

But I never said get a 2 for 1 in F. I said that LH only allows J class on a 2 for 1. BUT if you really want F some TAs have a pay J sit in F (booked in A), better than paying for 2 1st Class Seats.

I didn't know AmEx Plat can transfer points to Aeroplan, I always assume that AC wasn't part of the international airline progrma, then points are not transferrable to AP.

If this is the case, then Amex plat is a better deal than Aeroplanplus Plat Amex, I am changing mine.

From:

Open doors to better travel when you transfer your points to reward participants like Aeroplan®*, Continental Airlines or Delta Air Lines or redeem them for Membership Rewards Travel Certificates which can be used towards travel on virtually any airline, cruise line, hotel or vacation package.

----- not sure if you must transfer in bulk though, anyone know?

I was talking about the standard Amex Plat 2 for 1 tickets being bookable only through Amex Plat Travel Service, not the Aeroplan version which is restricted to AC flights. I don't even believe Aeroplan Platinum members have access to the Platinum Concierge and other card services we regular Amex Plat members have. My statement was in the context of the LH booking situation, where LH is a carrier that participates in the standard Amex Plat 2 for 1 program, not in the AC context. Read my original post.
