I have used the day rate at Sheraton Gateway. Plats receive the usual amenity gift and the stay counts as a stay/night with respect to SPG.
One thing that is a little disconcerting is that the hotel cancels your reservation from SPG online a day before you arrive, and re-records it into their internal reservation system. I believe they do this because SPG online continues to incorrect times (such as cancellation time of 4 pm) etc. The first time this happened to me, I called the Plat desk and had them "reinstate'" the reservation... only to have the hotel remove it again! Third time through and the Plat desk called the hotel directly and confirmed what was going on. One downside of this is that you lose the 500 point Helpdesk booking bonus, since it appears online that your original reservation was "cancelled".
