I've never heard of getting tax deductions/receipts in Canada for donating points. They technically have no actual dollar value so that's not really possible. Besides, it's always in the fine print somewhere about no tax receipts. Don't know about the states though.

What about using the points to have family come and see you?

Most of my friends and family would be pretty happy to get a flight to Calgary in economy, never mind business class!

Heh, actually tried to fly both my parents in for Stampede last year and the response was that they had more than enough to fly around the world on their AP miles in first class. Oh well. I tried

You don't value your AP miles for any form of travel partly because you do that for work anyway, so what difference would it make if those points were in Amex MR or SPG? I guess SPG only allows redemption for travel -so presumably Amex has other benefits?

Just curious.

At approximately 4cents /mile 500K is worth at least 20,000 dollars and buying a 4000 dollar TV for 20,000 dollars is somewhat ridiculous. You may not get seats on AC but you can get seats on UA/LH/TG/SQ fairly reasonably. I use the Business/First class awards for my long haul holiday travels and have not had any significant troubles getting seats.

No desire for exotic holidays for you or you + family? No care for PPT, CAI, JNB, HKT, or PER in F?

Wish I had the same troubles about how to use 500K...
