Missing Miles
Last week I flew on a round-trip ticket to the US. Credit for 3 of the 4 segments all posted to my Aeroplan account within a day or 2 but, more than a week later, the final segment (DEN-YYZ) has not yet posted. This seems strange because the connecting UA flight to Denver posted just fine, but the AC flight didn't - and my boarding passes were both printed at the same time (by UA).
I know you're supposed to keep boarding pass until the miles have posted but in this case I seem to remember them keeping the pass at the gate at Denver and just giving me the little tear-off stub (unusual?), which I've probably thrown out - at least I can't find it now. To be honest I've never had a case of miles not posting before (except where they didnt actually have my FF number for whatever reason) so I never really thought about it. But I want my 1300 status miles! Is this a common occurance with Aeroplan? Should I be worried or will the miles post eventually? Is there any chance of getting "retroactive" credit for the flight without the boarding pass? |
This occurs quite often, especially from airports that use UA to service AC flights. You can claim missing points on the AC website, however, I believe DEN is on the list of airports in which this service is not offered.
Even though nothing has posted, I am just curious... did you buy your ticket on UA stock or AC stock (it has nothing to do with your points not posting, but it may matter with actually getting your 1300 Q miles!)? |
Patience is a virtue.....a week is short time. In my expereince sending a copy of the ticket, and any info I have........duty free receipts?........has secured me the missing points. Chances are your points will appear.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll wait a few weeks and give Aeroplan a call if it still hasn't posted.
yyznomad: This was a UA ticket (AC didn't offer ticketing to my destination, MTJ) - I hope that doesn't affect my chances of getting the credit! |

I'm not sure what the booking class is as my eticket doesn't show that info. But in any case, the YYZ-DEN flight did post at 100% and I would expect the DEN-YYZ to post something at least, even if its only 50% miles. So far it hasn't appeared at all.

Does anyone know if Central Mountain Air flights attract AP miles? I booked a flight through the AC website with a lat. pass for the west (to YXC) and it's been a few days since the flight and still no miles have posted.
Also when booking the flight shows with a black AC logo rather than the usual red one. Is this just to signify a partner airline? |
Hkg-yvr
I have two flights from HKG to YVR (6200 miles or so) that weren't credited (I was on standby for upgrades both times and made it both times).
Unfortunately my boarding passes were in a handbag that was stolen from me. I doubt I'll get the credits ( :( - 12400 status miles and a bonus 12400 regular miles), but I've been too chicken to call in and find out. HKG is also not eligible for automatic crediting via the website. Ugh, how frustrating. I always wondered about this. I was on a SIN-HKG-YVR-YYZ in both cases. I wonder how they figured I made it from HKG-YVR given that the other segments are credited and I had reasonably short connection times. Guess they figured I might have swum across the ocean, or taken a flight with a competitor? :P |

They will take the res locator number and ticket number and can post your points. You can also do this online. SEs generally do not have to provide backup if you can supply both locator number and ticket number which can be confirmed. Reason077: If your miles from one of four segments have not posted together with the other three, then the missing segment will not post. You should always keep the small stub from your bording pass, as this is what is required. There is really no excuse for losing these critcal pieces of cardboard! However, because the other segments posted, you can just send a copy of your ticket with an explanatory note about no longer having the stub, and AE will likely give you credit. |
Purse? lol. I guess I should have said "carryon". Thanks for the advice though, I'll give 'em a call. I'm just a little lazy sometimes.

A similar thing happened to me. The second of three sectors on my itinerary was YYZ-YVR. I asked for my seat assignment to be changed (at the gate) on that flight. The first and third sectors posted to my account, but YYZ-YVR did not.
I called Aeroplan and learned that because of the reassigned seat, I had been listed as 'offloaded' in AC's electronic records. The AP agent agreed that I had obviously not been offloaded, as I had made my third flight. She credited the mileage without requiring me to mail in my boarding pass or ticket. |
I just called into the SE desk and the agent just asked that I fax in a copy of my ticket (in this case an E-ticket itinerary).

If you were on an e-ticket, and you have the number handy, much of the reinstatment can be done over the phone. If you need to produce BP's and you've lost them, a copy of the e-ticket and a UA baggage tag will generally suffice. UA is very thoughtful in that they put their locators on the bag tags, I wish AC would do that! AP has been amazing in going the extra mile to get missing points to me. You should be treated the same. DF DF |
