Would it be possible?

Hi to all...

I've never used the certificate for upgrading. I intend to do it on my next trip to Dallas. I have the require SSW certificate. Can someone tell me:

1) I have to call Elite # 7 days prior to the flight to be upgrade?
2) How difficult it would be to get the upgrade for this flight in particular?
3) Suppose I'm lucky enough, would I get the upgrade for the entire flight? (i.e YUL to ORD, then ORD to DFW (even though the last one is on United)
4) Do I have to proceed again for the returning flight (i.e call back 7 days prior to the return)?

Leaving on October 22:
My flight is : AC 769 YUL to ORD at 9:30AM
AC 5906 ORD to DFW at 11:55AM

Returning on October 28:
AC 5903 DFW to ORD at 09:45AM
AC 784 ORD to YUL at 13:25

Thanks very much for your help

I don't think that you'll be able to upgrade on the ORD-DFW flights as they are not on AC metal.

1) 7 days if SE, 4 days if E
2) YUL-ORD shows J5C3, ORD-YUL shows J9C9
3) only YUL-ORD and ORD-YUL can be upgraded assuming your ticket is booked in an eligible fare class
4) yes, you will have to call back to upgrade the return

This would be a huge waste of a SSWU. Could be used for LHR-YVR-SYD (for example). Or 300 bucks on ebay.

cogentin:

1) You can't use the cert (as already stated) for the ORD-DFW portion as that is operated by United. Air Canada upgrade certs are only good for Air Canada metal.

2) Don't upgrade YYZ-ORD... the flight is so damn short you'd be wasting a highly coveted certificate. I suggest you either exchange it for something that might be useful to you on FT, or use it on international travel, as already suggested. Hell, I wouldn't even upgrade on YYZ-ORD with anything since the flight is so short... unless it was the last flight of the year for me and I still had a few lying around to use.

3) Listen to the advice that martyYYZ and DutchSE tell you. It is a supremo waste of an upgrade certificate and I'm going to go out on a limb here by saying that the rest of the members on this board will agree with me/us as well!
