Is there any point to status cards & luggage tags?
Is there any reason to carry around the card that says what Aeroplan status I have, or to put the luggage tags on my luggage?
That is, does the card have any actual use? Do the tags result in better treatment of luggage? Thanks.

I've been pulled out of lines by concierges who saw my SE tags.
I've had concierges go looking through the (not customer accessible) baggage area looking for SE-tagged bags.
I've been to lounges that required a physical card regardless of what's on your phone or boarding pass.

yeah, there are some recent posts (can't remember which threads, but I think in the last week) where even 50ks (not just SEs) report getting special dispensation by a GA who saw the tags, for carry on or other boarding issues.

I really am pleasantly surprised to see all these responses.
Is there any minus? For instance, we have flights coming up mostly on AC, but one on another carrier. Will the positive karma that the tags give on one's usual carrier translate into negative karma with another, or just yawns?

I find there are less and less need, as smart phones and digital cards have become popular.
In fact, out of the 5-6 programs I use the most, priority pass is the only one I have physical card. Other than that, I have some expired cards from TK, never received any card from QR, Marriott, Accor, VIA Rail.

But IMHO the luggage tags are not that great for checked bags. Years ago when I first made it to an Elite status I put mine on and it broke after a single flight. I've only been using mine on carry on bags since.
