Saw the exact same YVR-YYZ week and a half ago. We were on a bit late b/c of delayed regional arrival, but plenty of room still there. Then crew started filling bins in J from the back including moving our bags around. I looked over to notice that they were packing the bin right above the still empty pod, and even tapped my wife seated ahead, with a "this might get interesting". Sure enough, at the last minute a couple come in and take up the two aisle seats. She unpacks and then proceeds to look in the bursting bins with a look of concern. Luckily, her DH asks what's up and there was room on his row, so he took and stowed her bag. Lucky #2, they both just had one personal item. We have avoided Y (NOT J as incorrectly written prior) this summer to ensure that one roller and a personal item have room when we board. Not sure how it would have gone with 2 rollers and two backpacks.

Kinda childish, but curious how freaked out some passengers would be if a bunch of J passengers decided to "re-optimize" the bins during flight for those Y passengers who took it upon themselves to pre-load the J bins (or vice-versa)... I've now recently heard a few anecdotal recounts of forward Y passengers finding luggage (presumably) from backend Y passengers "suddenly ending up in the middle of the aisle" and no-one claiming them... Doesn't always end up well...

Have you had better luck with overhead space in Y?
