J availability discrepancy question
I'm on the upgrade waitlist for AC881 this Sunday. When I do a dummy booking on AC.com it will allow me to "buy" two seats, which normally tells me that two seats are available for sale. But when I look at the seat map, it shows all J seats as occupied.
I'm used to seeing the reverse where there are more seats available on the seatmap than for sale, but I'm trying to understand what this means - is this an indication that there are some staff currently seated in J that AC will bump back if they actually sell their seats or is there some other explanation?

It's likely related to this: Seat blocking
Edit to add - on EF, the flight is J2 and the seatmap shows full, but 3 seats are showing blocked vs occupied.

Weird indeed. Same for me, booked on AC871 in PY today flying on Sunday. It shows J9 R9, Eup cleared instantly but seat map has only 3-4 seats open. Row 1 was blocked, until my e-up cleared and now I was able to select 1A. Initiall I thought this was because these are seats reserved for elites, but guess not. Expertflyer shows some seats as blocked, including 1A which I was able to select after the eup cleared.
