Q: What is the Worldwide Companion Pass (WCP)?The Worldwide Companion Pass (WCP) is a benefit offered to eligible Aeroplan credit cardholders. It allows you to book a second passenger on the same itinerary for a fixed companion fee plus applicable taxes when purchasing a paid Economy-class ticket through Air Canada.
Q: How do I earn a Worldwide Companion Pass?
You earn a WCP by reaching the minimum annual spend requirement on an eligible Aeroplan credit card within your cards billing year. Once earned, the pass is deposited into your Aeroplan account after your credit card anniversary date.
Q: Is the spend tracked by calendar year or credit card anniversary?
Unlike Elite benefit calculations, which are based on the calendar year, the WCP spend requirement is based on your credit card billing year, not the calendar year. This typically aligns with when your annual card fee is charged.
Q: What are the spend thresholds to earn a WCP?
$25,000 on select Aeroplan credit cards.
Q: Do I get more than one WCP if I spend $50,000 or more?
No. Each eligible credit card provides only one WCP per billing year regardless of annual spend.
However, you can earn multiple Companion Passes if you are the primary cardholder of multiple eligible Aeroplan credit cards.
Q: Which credit cards are eligible for the WCP?
The WCP is available on select Aeroplan-branded credit cards. Refer to your credit cards benefits guide to confirm eligibility.
Q: I pay for supplementary cardholders on my credit card. Can they also earn a companion pass?
No, only the primary cardholder can qualify. However, spend done on supplementary cards count towards the $25,000 limit for the primary cardholder.
Q: What can I use a WCP for?
When booking a paid Economy-class ticket through aircanada.com:
Q: Do both passengers need to be on the same itinerary?
Yes. Both passengers must be on the same itinerary and reservation. If one passenger needs to start or end in a different city, that additional leg must be booked separately.
The WCP appears as an option when searching for flights for two or more passengers.
Q: What are the companion fees for using the Companion Pass?
The companion fee depends on the destination zone and is charged per booking (not per direction). As of January 2026, the fees are:
Q: Which fares are eligible?
Eligible fares include Economy-class fares, including Latitude.
Q: Can I use eUpgrades with a WCP?
Yes. eUpgrade credits can be applied. Latitude fares may be upgraded at booking if upgrade space is available.
Q: Can I use the WCP on any flight?
No. The flight must meet all of the following conditions:
Q: Can I book more than two passengers on the same reservation?
Yes. However, the WCP applies only to the companion listed as the second passenger. All additional passengers will pay the full fare. If you have more than 2 passengers and want a specific person to receive the full SQC for the flight, ensure that they are not the second passenger.
Q: Do I have to be one of the passengers?
Yes. The primary cardholder who earned the WCP must be one of the ticketed passengers. Using a WCP without travelling yourself violates the terms and may result in ticket cancellation.
Q: Can I pay with multiple forms of payment?
Yes, but it depends. You may be able to combine the WCP with an eCoupon and a credit card on the same booking. Results can vary depending on the exact payment methods used.
Q: What happens if I need to change or cancel a booking?
Changes or cancellations must be made for both passengers at the same time. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the Companion Pass.
Some changes may require contacting Air Canadas specialty/companion desk rather than modifying the booking online.
Q: Do I get the Companion Pass back if I cancel my flight?
It depends. If you cancel the booking before the Companion Pass expiry date, the WCP is generally redeposited into your Aeroplan account within days, provided both passengers are cancelled together and the fare rules allow cancellation.
If the Companion Pass has already expired at the time of cancellation, regardless of travel dates, the WCP will not be returned as it has expired.
Q: Do both passengers earn Aeroplan status credits (SQC)?
The primary passenger earns SQC normally.
The companion earns SQC based on the fixed companion fee listed above plus carrier surcharges.
Q: If I hit the spend requirement early in the year, do I get the WCP right away?
No. Even if you reach the spend threshold early, the WCP is issued only after your credit card anniversary date.
Q: How long is the WCP valid?
The WCP is valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be booked before expiry (travel may occur afterward). If your travel dates are after the WCPs expiration date and you cancel the booking, the Companion Pass will not be reinstated.
Q: Does the trip need to be a round-trip?
No. A WCP can be used on one-way itineraries as well. That said, you typically get significantly more value on round-trip bookings, since the fixed companion fee applies to the entire booking rather than per direction. On a one-way trip, youre effectively using the pass for only half the potential value.
Q: How can I maximize the value of a Worldwide Companion Pass (WCP)?
The WCP delivers the most value when used on round trips that are long-haul, high-cash fares, where the fixed companion fee replaces a very expensive second ticket. Europe, Asia, and Oceania routes typically offer the strongest savings. Choosing Latitude fares can further increase value, as they allow immediate eUpgrade eligibility (subject to availability), potentially turning two Economy tickets into business class tickets.

Looking at using my companion pass for a flight to KEF. I noticed the price changes for Flex fares and below when I try to apply it. In both instances, I searched for 2 passengers.
The difference for Flex is $149 round trip so value of the pass drops to $350. When you consider that there are $750 in surcharges per ticket, the pass is almost useless. Has anyone seen this pricing behaviour before?
