Can anything else go wrong for AC? *sigh*

I guess the bright side is that things can only get better!

I guess KH must be travelling today or else he'd have already posted this:

"Alice Keung, Vice President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, has left the company to pursue other interests. Lise Fournel, President and CEO, Destina, will assume, on an interim
basis, the Chief Information Officer portfolio."

Our second favourite AC executive whipping boy, er ...

This title conjures up thoughts of a communist government. Translation would be Minister of Propoganda.

Chief Information Officer has been a title long used in corporate America. There's even a a magazine devoted to CIOs.

Let me ask a question ... given that the virus definitions for "White hat" were only developed today by Symantec, etc.... how would IBM or any provider for that matter be able to protect a system from a new virus that was as of this morning not yet known? Once known the protection services, Symantec, etc. provided protection and it could be installed.

As the white hat virus exploits the same weakness in the operating system as the blaster worm the patch has been availble from MS for weeks. Also as it is a worm the firwall should be configured to prevent this from happening.

Our organization uses a windows NT system and no ill effects due to the hole being fixed and a proper firewall. It is funny though that IBM is also our IT providor....

Just heard over at the mall that SEARS Canada have had their systems shutdown for the day due to a virus also and VISA is doing credit checks manually for the same reason.

Wonder if the ATM is working????

7E7:

Good point - I had not thought of that ... hmmm...

However I had thought that a firewall was not sufficient in this case and that the patch was required from MS.

What about the Nachi Worm? It just came out on the 18th! It claims to remove the Lovsan virus. It will self-delete on Jan 1, 2004. I had it yesterday and I got rid of it with AVG.
