For those coming here for the tl;dr redux version of what AC is doing, here is the latest and greatest.

On March 17, 2020, we received bonus eUgrade credits that are noted to expire on May 31, 2021:

S100K received 25 credits, E75K received 20 credits, E50K received 15 credits, etc.

And here is a recent update from jasdou regarding a statement from AC Altitude:

1. They've had bonus status mile promotions before - and I thought those were all million mile eligible
2. Hush, you! Don't give them any ideas. Triple miles. We're holding out for triple MM miles.

None of the promotions I've taken advantage of, such as the 100% bonus on Comfort fares, were eligible for MM.

Its been a while.

Code:
START TRANSACTION;
INSERT INTO aqm (pax, partner, date, details, class, aqm, aqd) VALUES ("Covid-19", now(), concat("Covid MM Bonus because ", activity.flight), "-", activity.base_miles*3, "0") SELECT pax, flight, base_miles FROM activity LEFT OUTER JOIN covidbonusused ON (activity.pax = covidbonusused.pax AND activity.flight = covidbonusused.pax) WHERE covidbonusused.id IS NULL;
INSERT INTO covidbonusused (activity.id) SELECT id FROM activity WHERE activity.id NOT IN (SELECT id FROM covidbonusused );
COMMIT;

I'm not doubting YOU could do it

Bear in mind the Comfort 100% AQM promotion all posted with just a date and no note tying them to a specific flight, so your SQL is already better than their past promotions.

And you haven't handled the MM aspect

I tried to look in to the details of my MM balance a couple years ago and got something from AC with some of the details. It showed that I earned a couple thousand MM-eligible miles from an "Air Canada Loves Toronto" promo back in 2003, so it looks like they've done it before, at least at some point

I generally agree that MM-eligible miles on promos would make it much more attractive to fly when it does resume though. The status gifting has very low value to me in terms of an incentive to fly this year.

Chances are that people will gift status to business colleagues who may not travel as much this year. Hence the total status members in 2021 may not be that much higher than normal years. Further, travel will take a while to pick up so expect less people fighting for UGs even if we have more status members. If I gift to a family member who travels a few times per year, that will have minimal impact too. AC is looking for ways to maintain us frequent flyers while asking us for help on gifting status to people that may travel more with AC moving forward. I always appreciate your contribution to the board Cow. I’m just finding that people are looking for a negative in one of the rare positives we’ve seen in a while. Stay healthy, cheers.https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/undefinedhttps://www.flyertalk.com/forum/undefinedhttps://www.flyertalk.com/forum/undefined
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/undefinedStatus is a zero-sum game. I see both sides of the argument. However, I'm going to side with you on this until I see evidence that suggest to the contrary. I'm pretty sure we're in a recession and how many people will have the money to travel? With no end in sight to COVID-19, I really doubt a lot of people will be flying anytime soon.

Has it been confirmed that status that is gifted later in this year will be valid until February 2022? That may have not been explicitly stated yet.

Um, well. How about because “Loyalty is a two-way street”? Air Canada gives you a free pass on status for a year, and your first thought is how fast you can jump to another carrier?

I described it recently like this:
In a normal year, if I fly, I earn status.
In 2020, if I fly, someone else earns status.

If loyalty is a two-way street, then they need to give me something in exchange for my continued flying. Right now, they're not.

There were few (one?). The one that got me started on SE status was in 1998 after the strike and we got TRIPLE Q miles:

I don't know about that, but in 1999, more than 10 years after I got my 1st AP point, we got double 'status miles' (or whatever they called them) on a trip to Nepal, mostly on Thai. I got 18k and a lounge pass - which made me feel like royalty!

I'm only at about 650k towards MM, but probably have twice as many (at least) with *A. Until the last few years, it's the alliance that worked best for me.
