I agree, the security screeners should match your ID and boarding pass, like done in the U.S.

The boarding process is much faster.

YEG airport @ patented tarmac to tarmac security, also known as WS area, there were only four people working each of three belts yesterday and it was working fine. Less people more efficient-----new concept here!!!!!!!

I've read that there are about 3200 screeners contracted to CATSA. I don't know if that includes the gate agents that act as screeners at small airports.

3500 people to screen pax going through airports and the carriers are laying off people left right and center. What a travesty this is becoming.
BTW I went through YYC security today and there were only four people per belt and all went very smoothly. I think its time this gets some publicity because we the FF'ers are paying through the nose for this excessive waste.

CATSA's on the right track in reining in excessive overtime and staffing by the contractors. Since January my outfit has seen a complete cut in scheduled overtime, no new hiring of screeners and a 15-20% reduction in daily staffing numbers. One area that's been a dismal failure, however, has been the CATSA mandated creation of a whole new level of middle-management. Our non-screener management force has increased three-fold since last summer.
