400 screeners isn't that many. They run three shifts and a lot of them are part-time (around 1/3) so well under 100 are on duty at any one time. At seven to ten per machine and with all the unnecessary stuff they do its way too many people. As I said earlier this is just more union featherbedding. |
You say they are overstaffed at YVR yet I see them only open 1 line at transborder everyday with screeners that are whining like the end of the world about not getting their break because no one is working. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

They do have too many people. Those clowns just do not know how to manage their staff. At the transborder side, I uually see like 10 people operating 1 Xray machine, you get a few jokers standing around then another one runing back and forth between the search table and the XRay machine. Then there's always the screener with the shoe fetish thing.
Btw, parnel; my post was referring to CATSA screener's post that 450 was not too much; then get them to open another ****ing line instead of making pax wait in line. In the end, a lot of pax are all pissed off after security and then they take it out on airline agents. Real smart. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif |
I just wish someone would properly train Abdul, Mohammad, and Aziz at the YYZ T3 U.S. Customs preclearance entrance. The three of them stared at my HP boarding pass and insisted there was no such flight leaving from the terminal. Then they turned the boarding pass upside down and talked among themselves in Arabic for about 30 seconds. Then one of them took my boarding pass then made me wait there while he searched for the America West ticket counter to verify that my flight existed. It was a very time consuming and unnecessary process considering the airline has the same two flights every day and I wasn't the only person on the plane. It's scary to think these idiots are now union protected and have wage increases thanks to the Canadian government!

FlyerAl, where did they think the flight was departing from anyways? Good grief. The ones that make me laugh are at YYC, A concourse. They insist that if your flight is leaving from B that you must use that security line. I just give them a blank stare and then they say 'ok, this time only'. Get stuffed. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Empress, I did get your point.
BTW I just went through T2 domestic security and counted 22 people at three machines. I figured out that at least 6 of them were doing nothing but standing around and not even trying to look busy.If one crew was on break that means around 30 people to handle three machines on a relatively relatively quiet Sunday night |
Lets face it we have all been con by the government regarding this $24 charge, and that sly SOB Paul Martin thinks he has a chance to get ellected in BC...(Party)
The average screener is okay, but its grossly mismanaged..... The supervisor at YVR the other day looked like so out of his depth, struggling !!!.... I hate to say it but they need to lay off the other 400 and start again, get in a professional company, to be honest it should be the AP authority... |

These losers eat up our hard earned tax dollars and do nothing but exactly that. Unfortunately, as it has always been in any democratic society, it is the masses that governments cater too and as long as the masses don't experience what the minority experience, this will probably not change greatly any time soon. So, for the masses, long line ups at security and seeing 10 people on one machine "working" is a minor inconvenience. For us, this entire ordeal is nothing but a crock of (add word[s] here)... |
This is a bit off topic but...
I think the biggest benefit from a passenger standpoint would be to provide a service similar to the major US airports where the screeners do the ID check. Most of the time when I'm passing through, I usually have to stand by the belt for a bit waiting for the non-FF to go through with their belt and other metallics get wanded. It makes the boarding process go so much smoother.... Why can't we do this in Canada? B |
