OT: interesting B&B's Atlantic Canada

I have family interested at staying within the country this summer and wanting to do the down east thing. Can anyone recommend some notable smaller hotels or bed & breakfasts around PEI, N.B. or N.S. in Aug. They'll likely fly into YHZ and rent a car and sightsee on their own for 10-14 days.

I know I should see that part of the country myself soon, but seems like I'm heading overseas somewhere like SIN instead. Thanks in advance for the input.

I recently went to a wedding at the Old Orchard Inn in Wolfville, NS, in the heart of the Annapolis Valley. It's a very nice property and they treat travel industry folks like gold. My friend (and the bride in question) is a tour guide who has been all over the Maritimes.

If you're up for a splurge, she raves about this hotel in St. Andrews, NB... the name escapes me but how many fancy hotels can there be there? I've been meaning to tag along.

There is also a hotel in Southern NS that is pretty popular and has been advertising $50 rates - White Point Resort.

I can get you some recommendations for B&B's in YHZ proper, but that's not exactly "in the country". If they are first timers, I would advise them to look into the Chester/Mahone Bay/Lunenburg NS area - for my money the most picturesque in the province and apparently riddled with beautiful B&B's. I have a friend who's Dad is the head of the historical society down there that I've been meaning to call. If you want, I can dig deeper for you.

In Halifax itself, one of the nicest ones is the "Pepperberry":

A great property with lovely hosts, and easy to find...just off the Armdale Rotary, a block from the NW Arm.

In Lunenburg, try "The Artisans":

They'll take good care of your family!

Thanks to all for the feedback. It is appreciated. And YYZC2, thanks for the offer but no need to put yourself out digging deeper. The info from this thread will give the family plenty of options.
