Cancelled and rebooked to kind of the same flight?

so Air Canada has emailed me to say that my flight 104 Vancouver to Toronto is cancelled, but I’m rebooked on flight 2104, same kind of plane, same departure time, but completely different seat. I’m sure there’s a good operational reason for doing this - but wonder what it might be?

Is this a flight today? EF shows 104 as cancelled today with the generic "BRD/OFF POINTS REQUIRED THIS FLIGHT".

AC2104 is usually an extra section for flight AC104. I think Adam Smith is correct. AC104 is likely cancelled. So you have been rebooked onto AC2104.

Right, but what's odd is that usually the 2xxx flights involve a change in time and/or aircraft type. 2104 seems to be departing at exactly the same time as 104 was supposed to, and they're both 320s.

Yes, that's exactly my question. The only difference that I can see is that my seat has been changed and the gate agent is going to be very busy re-issuing boarding passes.

Flight attendant told me it was indeed a change of aircraft from 321 to 320.

On Saturday they had 5 320s unserviceable and were then tapping into the 321 fleet for flights.

This could well be the ripple effect of that.
