Joking about bombs has not been acceptable for a long time. In the UK this law goes back to at least 1977 (see 1977 c. 45 Part IV Section 51).

She's an idiot who I would rather not spend time and money prosecuting. Give her a plea deal that deports her and bans her from the US or overflying the US for 5 years with no fines or jail time. No need to spend more resources on her.

But seriously, I remember seeing signs in the 90's about not joking about bombs in an airport. You'd think that people would have some sort of clue. But instead I find myself saying more and more often, "People are stupid."

Ya, that was my attempt with sarcasm as ex military and with what I did within the military, I am more than familiar than most with regards to security.
I am a big fan of Darwinism and enjoy the simple things in life like making fun of stupid people and snowflakes. Making bomb threats at airports is like throwing a patio chair off a high rise in downtown Toronto towards a busy highway. Stupid, dangerous and just plan dumb! But these people are part of our society and they walk among us......and they breed!

Yes, that's not acceptable for her behaviors. She could gotten almost lifetime ban on any Air Canada flights.

Yes, you are absolutely right! That's not acceptable for the behaviors. Joking is not allowed. It's not funny! This is not a joke!

No, she won't bans for life, but she has been banned to US for 5 years, not 100 years.

Hers was a thoughtless, ill-conceived and foolish remark. The above response is no more enlightened.

Bomb jokes are never a good plan, no matter where you are.

I agree with this assessment and want to add, some people just shouldn't be allowed to travel (or arguably leave their homes).

I know a lovely old lady who is more than a little ditzy. This lovely lady traveled with a group of our friends a couple of years ago - her first time on a plane in 30 years. Standing at the gate looking out the windows, she told her friends sitting several feet away, in all seriousness, "I wonder if there are any bombs on those planes." Thankfully our friends were the only ones who heard her, otherwise I'm sure there would've been as much of a fuss as the lady in the OP caused, and deservedly so.

To add she also managed to accidentally exit security while wandering around the airport on her connection and couldn't understand why she couldn't just go back the way she came instead of reclearing security. She just didn't see what the big deal was.

Sweetest lady in the world but I don't want to be around her in an airport.

Right! She won't be punishment. Yes, she won't do that again. As long if she behave well. She will accept apology to Air Canada.
