Cancel or change within 24 hours for award tickets - fee involved?
I've been looking around but I haven't found anyone mentioned it. Is refund or change free within 24 hour of booking an award ticket using aeroplan? It seems that the fee cannot be avoided?

That's unfortunately correct. AE awards cannot be changed/cancelled free of charges within 24h of booking.

I did try arguing that policy once for an ex-US award ticket since free changes/cancellations within 24h are a legal requirement (with some exceptions), but AE's response was: "We are not an airline - the law does not apply to us."

My experience the same. I called within 10 min of booking.

Curious if this “reason” noted by Jasper2009 will hold up when AE is repatriated to AC.

I'm curious if this "reason" would hold up now, if escalated to the DOT.
