Agreed with the posters above that this is a normal occurrence. I see it all the time hunting for AC J availability to book YQ free on MileagePlus.

Your theory of the AC/AE arrangement is that AC pays cash for miles from AE to give PAX, and in exchange, AC also gives free seats to AE for bookings. AND aimia lost $140million last year. ??????
