Pre-Arrival Snack - International Flight. They must be joking

We flew home CPH/YYZ earlier in the week in coach. The food and drink service was just fine. No complaints except for the pre-arrival snack/meal.

They brought out a long box that gave no indication of what was inside, except that the print said fajito. I opened the box, wondering what they were serving. Imagine a fig newton on steroids. The width was the same, but the length was about 4x's the width. The F/A told me this was chicken. This was mostly hot red sauce with a few tiny pieces of chicken. A/C has a lot of nerve to call this a snack. It left me hungry and thirsty. If you ask me, they shouldn't have bothered. What on earth were they thinking to serve this.

Also, no other snack offering mid-flight since this was a short international flight. The F/A told me snacks are available on long haul.
We changed planes in YYZ and headed to the Maple Leaf Lounge. This lounge, and the lounge at LGA are embarrassing. Makes the UA lounges look good. And YYZ is a hub!! Chips and salsa? Soup? They did have beer/spirits, and wine. We decided to head to the Priority Pass lounge near our gate instead. It's slightly smaller than the MLL, but has a food selection that won't leave you hungry.

Just be thankful you didn't fly the other way, you would be gotten the nuclear bunker approved "banana bread" with expiry of 2037.

That garbage is domestic and comparable to AC's pretzel mix on domestic flights;

This is a the pre-arrival breakfast served on both carriers on transatlantic flights in economy.

Wait...are you referring to this?

If so, not proud of this, but it’s actually one of my guilty pleasures when I’m forced to sit in the back on AC. :P

That AC Y transatlantic breakfast must be the long haul version Last time my mom flew they only got the banana bread; Western departure also had the lavish yogurt addition

Count me in on this. They're between meh and OK. The way OP talks, you'd think Monty came and personally punched their dog or something. I've had worse on UA (usually EWR-LHR/DUB), tbh...

I'll have to be included in the camp that doesn't mind the Monty's things. Way better than the banana bread loaf of doom.

I don't quite remember what I had on that CPH-YYZ flight back in October. I brought chocolate for the flight crew, and then my buddy and I drank johnny while watching bad movies. Was a fun flight.

When they were first introduced they were interesting. The novelty wears off....

They do describe themselves as: "... a truly independent, award-winning specialist in enjoyable in-flight snacking and a proud pioneer in premium, handheld treats to the travel industry."

https://www.montysbakehouse.co.uk/

They are British, and the culinary tradition of their homeland, is captured in those little boxes.

There was a time the MLL had good food and was much better than the UA Club. No longer, the UA Clubs are much better.

I don't think I agree with that. It depends heavily on which UA club. Crackers and single-slice packaged cheese, anyone?

I usually opt for the Monty's that is cheese based and quite like them. I like the use of herbs and the pastry is not bad. And +1,000,000 to the observation that they beat the "banana" bread hands down.
