Why AC7230 cancelled?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could let me know why AC7230 was cancelled today Aug 30). I just got notice at 3:00 am and when I called into AC they could not tell me why the flight was cancelled. Does it have to do with airport construction?

Googling an interpretation, I get: "A generic message with no other info as the reason"
The inbound got in ok:

AC7229 which is the inbound for the following flight is cancelled, meaning that the inbound plane from last night will be used for AC7232. Still does not explain why though...

Just wondering, if I had accepted the delay until tomorrow would AC have owed any compensation? The flight was scheduled for 5:20 am and I got the email at 1:48 am although I did not see it until 3:30 when I woke up. I am just curious since I booked the trip since I had business and ended up driving to YYC to catch the remaining flights.
The funny part is I tried to cancel part of my return trip which AC rearranged an was making me overnight in YYC, and now with driving to YYC I no longer required the hotel since now I have to drive home. The agent pointed me to the reservations desk which had 3 people in line. At this point I did not feel like going out of my way and spending more time to save AC money.

Yeah, I agree. It might be a PITA from a schedule perspective ... but when a plane develops a hydraulic leak mid-flight and still lands safely, it's hard to complain too much about the situation.

Meanwhile AC is busy this morning with one bird strike on AC 503 and one navigational issue on AC 691. Both flights returned to origin.
@Medhatter, what happens now with your trip?

Why was there a leak? Defective design? Poor maintenance? Wasn't checked when it should have been?

Well I am now in China and from discussing with some other passengers on the flight it was mentioned they noticed from their window seat the left engine being checked prior to take off.
For anyone who as every worked in a safety area you know that when you experience a series of close calls your chance of a major incident increases. I know when I asked the flight staff what the problem was they just told me "it cant turn sharp enough for Russian airspace". I asked if it was a rudder problem and got no reply. At the gate I asked about our new aircraft and was told it was the plane scheduled for YVR - YYZ in the morning. Since I see no cancellations I do not think the problem on our original was that major unless they sourced another aircraft.
