763 midline bins flawed?

Anyone else annoyed by these?

Perfectly fine rolerbags fit in the bins fine, but the bins can't close; when one does relieve some airport stress closing it, getting the bin open later becomes nigh impossible.

Or actually impossible.

If you can't close the bin normally, guess what, your bag doesn't fit.

You do realize these 2 statements contradict each other, correct?

Yeah this is a known issue with some of the 763 bins. Bags that are just at the international dimensions fit but the latch doesn't quite close.

Sometimes things close with just the expected amount of force, but don't open. Engineers design this all the time, they call them "ratchets".

While true, it doesn't also mean that the bag does not fit the bag specifications that Air Canada has laid out.

The legacy 767s that were owned by Canadian Airlines are notorious for this. Regulation bags had to go in sideways and not wheels first as per newer aircraft. One regulation size bag that I have doesn't fit the bin and I wonder if the original poster here is one of those individuals affected in the same way I was.

True, but, please don't tell me you've never, ever, ever seen an FA assisting a passenger in cramming their luggage into the bins, even if they "do not fit".

No, I have seen that many times. And if my bag is in the the same bin, I say something before the cramming starts.

You made me laugh out loud. This was the typical dialogue between a flight attendant and me.

Me: Excuse me miss, please don't squish my bag.
FA: I'm sure it'll be fine, I do this all the time.

The new dialogue that works for me almost every time is:

Me: Excuse me miss, that bag alone is worth $700. If you damage it, I will expect compensation, let alone the $10,000 worth of camera equipment in there.
FA: Sorry sir.

Once:

Me: Excuse me miss, that bag alone is worth $700. If you damage it, I will expect compensation, let alone the $10,000 worth of camera equipment in there.
FA: Would you like me to gate check that?
Me: Are you kidding me?!
