If it's not that they changed their mind, perhaps the gate agent also found there was an issue with their ticket?

"Five Houses Burn to Ground in Busy Night for City Firefighters"
Which one is a news story?

Yes, this level of calamity is real news... how does a ticketing error warrant national coverage - just CBC trying to find a lazy story that in no way justifies the horrendous money grab they're trying in Ottawa right now.

All this makes me think of this email I just received..
Rest assured that we want to do everything we can to ensure that your travel needs are met. We understand air travel isn't always easy, which
is why we continually focus on improving our products and services.
And no, that wasn't AC. Likely why I got a reply in a week

They're at it again..............AC is up to their old tricks.
AC at it's customer service finest. Remember
- "You're not our problem." (Air Canada Supervisor)
- 'We realized you had tickets issued by American (Airlines) and we're kicking you off the flight for Air Canada passengers,'"
THIS is why it's news. THIS is why CBC keeps laughing and calling AC to the carpet. Things happen, situations arise, but AC is downright rude.
For all the people who get cross that 'CBC keeps writing stories about AC and their customers complaints' it is because CBC is writing for the 95% of the public who are not frequent flyer hounds.
The problem isn't the CBC, the problem is AC keeps giving them a never ending stream of disgruntled customers who have bought a ticket, been issued a ticket, been issued a boarding pass and then it all falls apart amidst poor customer service, no recourse and rude commentary from AC staff.

Here is a real headline, based on your unsupported opening line.
CBC after exhaustive investigative journalism breakthrough, discovers AC playbook that purposely undermines public customer service commitments, the Tariff, and applicable law.
This would be real News, should it exist although I doubt it, the rest is hysteria, to wake up Two-thirds of Canadians who do not travel by air and have nothing better to do than gripe about the one third of Canadians who regularly fly.
Possibly this is CBC attack on those who can afford to fly, but interesting Greg Saretsky at WS recently pointed out when they started only 17% of Canadians flew, and now it's up to one third so progress is being made.

You certainly know what you are saying. In both the US and Canada too many people think they are privileged and above all rule, regulations and laws. A lot probably have no real idea of what is happening in the world right now.

Or be told by the government to follow... It might be in AC's best interest to voluntarily match Delta and United rather than be forced to. Surely those in Montreal care a little bit about corporate image.

Why isn't Air Canada mea-culping yet about their awful customer service ? How many negative CBC articles will it take for AC to get off its arrogance ? CBC was successful in toppling Air Miles.
